Now this is a real 2CV
It is and all although the only one we've ever seem was on "Antiques Road Trip" where that Scottish bird, Anita Manning was making a right hash of the gears.
The convertible looks a little odd with the roof up however.
What about one of these then? Still quite a few about but none I've seen quite as pretty as this one.

That's the Méhari, a plastic body on a 2CV chassis, named after a type of camel famed for its load-carrying abilities.
They also made a military and police 4WD version called the Sahara with an engine at each end, but I don't think that many have survived.

That's not the one parked on the path between the Grande Cote and St Palais Sur Mer by any chance just outside a nice modern looking house overlooking the fishing nets?
As there is one exactly like it and been there for a number of years.

Did you eat at Les Viviers Charentias, just up on the main road as they produce the best fruits de mer in the area and their daily Paella is something to experience.
Yes, think the car belongs to a chap in the house opposite the path. He removes the soft top for the summer.

No, we had a meal at Chez Bruno's. It was OK but I objected to the price of their wine. The cheapest was 18 Euros a bottle and they probably bought it for 4 Euros from Super U earlier in the day so it was a carafe of water and a glass of beer for us.

I think i'm correct in saying that the only 4x4 twin engined Sahara examples actually made by Citroen were based on the saloon 2CV, and that any based on the plastic bodied Maharii are all conversions and not production models. The same being the case for the fibre glass , kit based, cabriolet .

Yes Ribski thats what it says in my 2CV book, talking of the sahara,
I was admiring a very modified 2CV in Bristol when the owner appeared.
Have you looked at the other side of the car he said. I looked and there
was very little paint, that was the side facing a sahara sand storm he said.
There used to be a lot of specials around and I had the great pleasure of
driving a couple at the Eavesham show ground many years ago.
However you could not beat the Pallas engined 2CV known as a Sidewinder.

You are right, the Safari 4WD was based on the 2CV, not the Méhari.
Anyway, look what I saw in New Milton yesterday. Its an American 1909 Paterson 30 Tourer. The Dutch owners were doing their shopping in it.

Just visited Facebook and saw this. I immediately though that Ribski, Citroeriba and, I dare say, one or two of the rest of us would like this photo.
It would appear that two of the five on the upper deck, and one of the four on the lower deck, have special rear mudguards.

Also, while camping recently in Deauville, we saw this being used by the cleaning staff. It was the only vehicle that could ride over the speed bumps at full pelt.

Thanks Randa Interesting pics. The cut out rear wings were to make it easier to remove the rear wheels, and were originally on the 4 X 4 Sahara, why on these I don't know ? I bet CITROERIBA knows (very little about Citroens he doesn't know) .
The AK (350 weekend, I think ?) van is just 'BEAUTIFUL' love it . Thanks for the pics.
