After meeting and talking to RS54O at the 2018 Cambridge meet about the fridge fan mod that he had made got me to thinking, "I could do that". So I did a little research and came across Aaron Calders "how to" post (How to: Fit thermostatically controlled fridge cooling fans). So armed with the knowledge of both Eribarists I had a go.
I didn't have to source all the individual components or (thankfully) take the worktop off, instead I bought a complete kit from Ebay costing £42.95 + post (Werbung: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CBE-Tornado-D...872.m2749.l2649). I also wanted to make it future proof by not drilling any extra holes for the control unit in the van so sacrificed one of the double sockets under the counter top next to the fridge and replaced one socket for the control unit putting the now spare socket in the panel under the bed.

To fit the fan I made a frame for the unit to sit on which in turn sits on the metal cowling in front of the fridge cooling fins. The frame is secured with three screws through the frame of the mesh cover into the fan frame. I then drilled a hole for the power cable (to the right of the fans) through into the kitchen cupboard, connected to the control unit then brought the whole thing alive by connecting to the vans 12v supply and a 10Amp inline fuse ( The terminals have been insulated since the pic was taken). I finally tested the unit was working in auto mode by using a heat gun on the fans to activate the thermostat.

Very nice job, I took a cheaper route, here :- 2017 Triton 430 - extras and modifications
It would be worthwhile sourcing a couple of 80mm computer fans as spares and pre-stripping/adjusting the ends of the wires ready for a quick swap over. I have found that they start to get noisey after a few years and this can get annoying. These only cost a couple of £'s so get the best you can. I think the larger 100/120mm fans are now more popular so the smaller 80mm units may be getting more difficult to source.

Good advise. I went down the full kit route as I was not confident enough to build my own unit but I like the idea of spare fans. If I was to put in the larger fans I would probably have to lose the frame as head room is really tight. Now I have the experience doing a swap in the future should be straight forward. Thanks.

That's a very neat and professional looking modification, Steve. Well done and thanks for sharing it with us. It's a very worthwhile and simple improvement especially for those heading to warmer climes.
Where is the fan temperature sensor? Does it activate on external or refrigerator housing air temperature?
The thermostat kit that I built was designed for use in incubators and switched the fans on when the temperature fell so I had to modify it to operate the other way round. Mine operates on external air temperature so I located the sensor in the plastic external grille.

The sensor is built into the unit between the 2 fans I believe. It activates the fans when the ambient temperature /heat from the fridge fins reaches 50c.

Just a quick thought - if you drilled through to the area behind the fridge from inside the van - you did put some sealant in the hole afterwards didn't you?

O dear, this is awkward! I did put sealant in the hole but I made a pigs ear of the 1st attempt and started the hole in the wrong place so had to start it again next to it. Thought I could get away without showing you (well, I did but neglected to mention it) but here it is. The diameter of the hole is is so large so as to accommodate the connector on the end of the wire from the fan.
