Sent email to the operator who first informed us of the cancellation and requested passage on next Tuesday's sailing to Santander.
This morning received reply asking if we would prefer the Santander ferry instead of amended booking to Roskoff ?? Asked me to call back to confirm. Lines busy so replied by email to confirm . Finally got through and we are now on the Plymouth to Santander ferry sailing 14th May !! ..Must have been talking with BF's Mrs Jobsworthy yesterday

Re the Pont Aven, it broke down on the 29th April when one of its four engines went bang in a very big way whilst in the Bay of Biscay. Limped into Brest. The damage caused has been dealt with and it has been declared seaworthy by the relevant authorities. It will resume service on the 14th but the Portsmouth - Santander sailings have been changed to depart from Plymouth (and return to Plymouth). This is to cut down the distance as the ferry will be operating on three engines, thus limited to a max of 20knots instead of 24+knots. The kaput engine will not be replaced until early 2020 as the work will take eight weeks - and of course, such engines are not available off the shelf!

You might like to consult the app 'Meteo Consult Marine' - the wind & swell map will give you a good idea of the likely conditions in the Channel & Bay of Biscay.
Bon Voyage!
