Shaving rip offs

I have always thought that shaving is one of the most useless chores I have to do each day. Especially now with a still to be sorted out - yes, the forefinger it's not easy for grip and control of the razor and the container. The cost of the whole rigmarole - just blades for instance is ridiculous too and the waste of gel doesn't help. To try and get a minimal but useable amount out onto the finger is really hard because of the tiny amount of pressure needed to get just the right amount out and invariably I am washing loads of unused and very expensive stuff down the drain.
Finding that the supermarket stuff is slightly better than say Nivea or Gillette is difficult to understand when you think the big boys would have greater resources and expertise in gauging the flow, but I guess all they are concerned with is profit and at present they are guaranteed that.
You might say grow a beard, I did years back and because of raging acne when a kid and the subsequent use of a radio treatment on my face at the time it has now made my stubble growth light and patchy to be effective as a beard, but it stills needs to be kept neat.
That's my grumpy old git's rant for this morning.

Rip off is right!
In fact I've just ripped off the current beard.
Even with a beard I still found myself shaving every day.
Mrs P says the beard makes me look depressed! I quite like it but it does irritate me.
I just thought that while camping it would make ablutions easier.
One also has to consider the Capt Haddock effect!

I shave everyday and have done for many years, I grew a beard once in the Army but that was for a bet, which I won
I tend to buy good quality razors and then only when they are cheaper, I'll then quite happpily buy 4 or 5 packs.
I also shave in the shower and I find my razors last longer as a consequence, wet warm skin probably helps.
I only use gel and not foam.
I also wax But thats another story

For the last three years I have been using the old fashioned safety razor with the single double edge blade, I use a bristle brush, shaving soap and plenty of hot water. I get a very smooth close shave at a fraction of the cost of those silly multi blade razors which seem to bring out a new gimmick every other week to make you buy them.

Just invested in a brand new electric jobby, my fourth in 50 years of shaving. Always a Philishave with rotary cutters, this one can be rinsed clean under the tap. Some can be uses in the shower these days. Never got on with blade shaving due to facial lumps and bumps, although I'll grant you get a smoother result, but that only last for a few hours.

Well there you are, I was never satisifed with the electric shaver and had several models. My chin and neck have to be extremely smooth to satisfy me and the modern blades (at the moment the Quatrro) although extremely picey, but last a long time do the trick. It's the price of them and problem with the gel can that bothers me.
