Hi,
Has enyone else found this, I brought it up on the vans first service and was told they a galvanised and need treating with WD40. They look chrome to me, on close inspection there appears to be nickel plating on the edges. A small point but annoying.

Mine [2017 van] are bzp [bright zinc plated] and not chrome plated. They should not corrode and should not need treating with WD40 so I think you have been told a porky there. A couple of mine whilst not rusty are a little tarnished in appearance
What does confuse me is you mention the edges appear to be nickel plated. This could be several things. The edges are not as exposed and have discoloured at a different rate, the plating on the edges is a different thickness, or you are unusual and do have chrome plated hinges. I say this as to chrome plate you first go copper, then nickel before the final coating of chrome.

Whatever the case they should not be rusty and I would ask that they are replaced.

Mine started to tarnish badly as well on a 2018 van; they appeared to go dull and form a white chalky oxidation.

A quick rub over all of them with white spirit (which is slightly oily) seems to have arrested the deterioration...

I've just had to replace one for the first time, on our van. Mind you, it is 20 years old.

Are you talking about the internal overhead lockers? As far as I can tell these are a one-off hinge size made for Hymer - I've not been able to locate a wide slim spare of these dimensions anywhere so far.

There is no way you should be needing to treat them with WD40 after 1 year unless they're rubbish quality to start with and have been in excessively damp conditions. You say corroding rather than rusting - are these aluminium?

Sorry - going through months of grief with split locker doors and mountings so hinges have been a bit of 'thing' with me recently

I don't believe they are a one off for Hymer. Try here, 3rd from bottom.

Mine have all tarnished on a 2015 Familia, no amount of elbow grease is going to make them shine again..

One of the problems is getting the width 50mm with depth 20mm (including hinge roll) plus getting the correct distance between centres so that they can just be a drop in replacement. I hadn't come across Hart before so I'll drop the line and see if their 50mm is any different to the '000s of others.

Thanks.

Hart will not deal directly with you are they are a strictly trade only supplier with £25 minimum order.
Best bet is to e-mail Blum https://www.blum.com/gb/en/ with the part number [and description as Hart may re-number the product] and ask for a schematic of the hinge. I think you will get most of the sizes you need from the small schematic down the right hand side of the link that examples a 40mm hinge.
