Water pump problems

Hi all

Hope someone can shed some light on this - not sure if I'm missing something or what, but when we bought Esther the water pump was working, then it failed seemingly on the connector, but now it seems to 'blow' every pump we try on it. The last two I've tried have run for a few seconds then nothing. I've got 13.8 volts at the connector. This is starting to get annoying and could end up getting expensive too!

Thanks,
Steve

Replying to my own post with more findings...lol

Decided to try connecting the pump(s) straight to the battery and of course they do work...

Seems the dreaded microswitch on the tap has dirty contacts, and in fact there are a few connections that could also be 'dodgy'.

So a fun evening finding out how to take apart the white Reich 'deluxe' tap and having a go at cleaning said contacts in the knowledge that I can always buy a new tap for about twenty quid (but really would rather not spend out as I now have a nice new 'spare' pump). Oh well.

It's come apart and gone back ok it seems, but won't know for sure until it's all back in position and we try it. I have to say it's an impressive bit of design and would seem capable of being serviced and used for a long time. If the contacts are still no good I think I'll have a go at new ones for circa a more reasonable £5.

Here are some photos of the various bits if anyone is interested. It was also a chance to have a jolly good clean, as most parts of the tap had collected years of crud you couldn't see until it was dismantled. Given it can be used for drinking water I think it might be something I'll be doing again in the not too distant future.

Might just do that, thanks for the heads up! Tested the tap today and all is well again. It’s possibly been in service for at least 10 years so I guess it’s not that unexpected. The wiring was a mess, but I’m going on the history of the owners as far as I know with the 10 year estimate. It’s been a good exercise in any case, removing all pipes and cleaning them out, also putting an elbow in where there was a kink, as well as tidying up that blooming wiring!
