Hoping to mis the parking bods tonight

Going to Portsmouth Guildhall again to see the BSO in concert and my mate is driving us again. I don't think we'll be parking in the same place as last time.
I reckon we will all go and re read the signs on the street post.

We haven't heard back from the council yet on our challenge to the ticket, but we expect to and pay a fine, but you live in hope don't you?

Good luck with the parking. Mark went for a 6.00 haircut and got a 35.00 parking ticket. He may as well have gone to a top hairdressers instead of a nearby barbers. Hope you have a lovely evening.

The concert was fine thanks, Mozart, Schuman and Mendelssohn. On leaving the Guildhall the ladies went round the parking space where we got done and said there were 8 cars, all with blue badges and none with tickets. The signs have been changed but who reads them if you reuse the same space over 8 months and if you're not a local and get the press how would you know the rules had changed?

I await the official response to my challenge and then respond with the question as above.

Taking advantage of the outstanding view from this very high horse, I can't help thinking that not reading the signs before using the space isn't really much of an excuse.

The council (or whoever it is) have obviously fulfilled their obligation by displaying the parking rule changes, but I don't see how they can be held responsible for you - and others - not reading them.

Maybe they ought to put a second sign close by which tells you to read the other one.

In our case where Mark parked used to be ok but recently they have very discretly put a sign flat on a wall.

If you have parked there happily for many months, would you read the signs each time?? And as said earlier, why were there several cars on the same patch last night with not a ticket in sight?

I really can't say, but I've never had a ticket, and I seldom use car parks

No, I doubt very much that I would. But that wouldn't be a mitigation for me, just as it may well not be for you and the others who transgressed.

I apologise if you think I'm being all self-righteous about this. I don't mean to be. The thing is that as far as the authority is concerned it's up to you to read the sign and act accordingly. There really isn't any way they could take local knowledge - or lack of it - into account when they put the signs up.

And just in case you might be thinking that I work for some council parking department, I don't.

I'd rather eat worms.

we have had parking restrictions for the last year, but the wardens seems a bit too over zealous, the warden was watched adding a ticket to the funeral car while a funeral was taking place in the church!! the parking was coned off for the funeral car.

After I retired I did some Casual work for my friend a Funeral director. The company he works for do a lot of traveller funerals. As you can imagine the funeral always takes place in church, usually Roman catholic so they go on for hours and they are always very well attended. Parking rules and restrictions go out the window as far as the Travellers are concerned and many of the cars/vans do not carry tax discs.
At one funeral we pulled up at the church with cars parked everywhere and a team of Traffic wardens huddled together discussing tactics as there were yellow lines outside the church. The coffin was withdrawn from the hearse and the funeral party was about to follow when a rather pompous warden approached my friend and told him that he couldn't park the hearse and limos outside the church due to the parking restrictions and that tickets would be issued. A member of the family overheard what was being said and all the wardens were immediately surrounded and advised that the hearse and limos COULD be parked there and that if the vicinity was not vacated by the wardens very very quickly there was a distinct possibility that there may be a few more funerals taking place in the not too distant future. We were stood all this time shouldering the very heavy coffin. At this point a police car arrived realised the situation and advised the wardens to depart and not to return for at least 2 hours.
They maintained a police presence outside the church until after the service.
