Fridge Vents

My 2017 Troll 530GT has 2 fridge vents, grey in colour which look identical, top and bottom. My last van, a 2005, had an upper vent which had a small section on the RHS for the gas exhaust. On the older van, they were definitely different.

Just wondering if the winter covers are different for the top and bottom vents? And does the gas exhaust just vent near the back of the top vent?

I have a 2015 Familia, the vent covers are the same size for top and bottom..

Thanks for the reply, but that surely means that the top vent is completely covered? I thought the top cover was shorter to allow the fridge gas exhaust to be open?

You would thing so Iain but I've just looked at many photos of the "new type" tourings and it would appear that the top and bottom grills are the same. See the pics below:-

The older Trolls have a slightly different configuration that you can see on the top grill. The exhaust has a small extension pipe that fits behind this area of the grill.

As for the covers, again you would expect a cut away section to the top one.

I'm away in the van at the moment, but fortunately I brought the manual for the Troll with me. It states that winter covers should be placed on both ventilation grilles when the temperature falls below 10C.

Section 9.5.1 states that "in the case of smaller appliances (capacity of less than 130l) in gas operation, only use the lower winter cover"

I find that extremely worrying for someone who hasn't looked at the manual. Unlke the older Troll grilles, this is definitely not 'fail safe', and a real design oversight in my opinion.

Thanks for your replies to my question.

We've just bought a new Troll 530 and so we're ploughing through the manual and got to this part. I don't think we have winter covers for the ventilation grilles, do we need to get those as extra? Our Troll is currently covered up with a Protec cover...

You only need them if you plan to to use the van [fridge] over winter. If the van is parked up and not in use then they are not needed.

I usually use mine when washing the van and when stored over winter...😊
