Net curtains

Hi all
Having parked our new Puck in the drive I have noticed that it doesn't have any net curtains. It does have proper curtains and fly screens, but I can see the rail where nets should go.
We have not taken the Puck anywhere yet, but I think we may want to get some....... What do you recommend? And where do we get them from?
Many thanks

Our Triton was the opposite. It had nets but the 'curtains' were only dummies that were gathered at the window edges but didn't draw closed. The Boss made a set for reasons of perceived snugness on cold winter nights.

There are lots of people who whip the net curtains out of their vans the moment they get them home and put them in the attic but whether anyone is prepared to sell them is a moot point.

We keep our nets drawn when parked unoccupied as this reduces the chances of fading of the upholstery. They are also useful if you need privacy.

Mrs C tells me that making nets is not difficult and that that may be your best bet.

I like the cafe curtains, privacy without getting the Welsh habit (net twitching)

I've got a feeling that this is the standard set-up, though I 'spect Steamy Andy will know for sure.

We kept the net curtains in until last summer for the reasons you mentioned and because we thought - and still do - that they suit the character of the whole thing perfectly. I say still do because we did take them out briefly to see what it was like without them, and because I'd got fed up with Mrs P blowing her nose on the ones on her side when she couldn't find a hanky and they'd gone all crispy and needed washing.

It was too spartan and cold-feeling without them. We play dominoes in our underwear a lot - for money, of course - and the clicking clatter without the deadening effect of the nets was both unbearably echoey and uncomfortably parky.

So the nets are staying.

Nets have been standard for decades and remain so. As Pete says they suit the Touring aesthetically and have practical advantages, although snot blowing wasn't on my list. Without them Eribas can develop an echoey cigar tube feeling. As I've said before we have no net curtains at home but we like our Eribas with them.

Our '01 540 had full width curtains as well as nets and that gave a definite look of 'fullness' to the curtains when furled. However I suspect Hymer noticed that few people actually drew the curtains and our '05 540 had the pretend curtains ends that would only pull an inch or two. They certainly didn't look as good when furled.

I suspect you can get OE nets from a Hymer dealer at a price but picking up some from ordinary retail sources and making your own shouldn't be too difficult. Mrs SDA is available for private sewing tuition, having aeons of experience teaching sewing at various adult education colleges. y

But at the same time strangely disturbing.

pp that is so well put.

you find at some point your stared at, so the nets help to save any moments of embarrassment

you could see if the guy on baye hymeruk has any
al or jandi tebay
or make your own

you need to work out the drop and the width including gather then choose a net design you like from a fabric place, sewing place,
the bottom of the net has some heavy weight chain, the top curtain tape stuff(name has disappeared) could be bought from a haberdashery
making nets was one of the first things I did on a borrowed battery/ electric operated sewing machine for the house lol would suggest something that stays still on table
will measure mine tomorrow as a referance

We don't like them at home or in Eriba so they are stored away.

the side window measures 37"x 18" working in inches

measured one of the 2 nets that cover the window above

the material needs to be 80" x 25" 1/2 for the finish size to be 78" width by 23"
this is because you need to allow an 1" at either end (width) to fold over an 1/2 seam
the top also needs folding over to incorporate the tape an allowance of 2inches for this.
the bottom needs about 1/2" for rolling around the weight bead

so for the 2 nets for this one window you will need 160" widthx 25"1/2 or 26" drop to make life easier
although the back window needs material with a drop of 28"1/2

2 side windows would be 320" x 28"1/2

the net curtain has a fixed top gathering know as which involves folding material while attaching curtain tape I will post a picture so you will see the measurements distance between each gather ect.

tape is approx. 3/4" deep x 37"1/2 width for one net

back window
measured one of the 2 nets that cover the back window
the material needs to be 90" width x 28" 1/2 drop for finished size to be 26" drop x 41" width
the top again has 2" for curtain tape x fold over bottom has 1/2 for weight bead rolled seam
the gather is the same for side net
for 2 nets for back window the total material for this is 180"x 28" 1/2

the total material for 2 side window nets and back would be width 320 + 180 by drop 28" 1/2

hope this makes sense
haven't digressed into feet inches or yards as I get confused but you can convert into what ever measurements you find easiest. just measure the window first to make sure the same
edit
just found this conversion table
not sure if these are any good

Dear everyone......thanks for all the useful and/or amusing replies......we go for our first outing next weekend and we will see how we cope and if we manage the stares etc.
not sure I could make the nets, despite your helpful advice, but I will look at various websites to see if I can buy them.

Hazel has wanted some for Eddie since we picked him up.
It's on the to-do list, but if anyone has a set of triton nets gathering dust in the attic that they would consider selling we'd be interested.
