I've tried it out and it works perfectly (please see the attached pictures). I was wondering if
this type of jack was once issued to an Eriba caravan when new or I seem to remember years
ago a very similar VW jack.
I'm just curious, as to it's origin........Does anyone know!

Many years ago I had a 1962 VW Beetle that came with a jack very similar to that but yours does look to be a bit heavier duty.

Whenever I used it it reminded me of those simple 'monkey climbing up a stick' toys.

I think you may find that this is a VW "Transporter" jack ? It is similar to the Beetle jack but has a higher lift. Could be wrong, but hope it helps

I don't know the origin but I do know I've used similar if not more heavy duty in the military especially in third world countries

There is a more modern type used now with teeth up one side (but the name escapes me) offroaders use them a lot,

That sounds logical to me, Ribski.

I go with the early VW Transporters, Manufactured by Bilstein who made many different types.

Almost definately a Bilstein for me to but just thinking of other types as well, I have seen scissor and bottle jacks used as well as the small trolley type of jack.

Always seems strange to me that lots of people take everything with them in the van that they would miss away from home, but neglect even a standard breakdown kit!

I would'nt attempt to change a wheel roadside anywhere without a suitably placed emergency vehicle warning the traffic far to dangerous these days!

A 48inch Hi-lift is just the thing you need for an Eriba, if you want to flip it over onto its side

I've used a Hi-lift many times, and they're a God send in all sorts of offroading situations
They're also one of the most dangerous bits of kit when not given respect, THEY BITE

Bet that you're always exaggerating about size eh, eh.

Where does everyone get the 48" from! Mine is just 42cm long and that's about 16"1/2 inches.

A lovely little jack which takes hardly any room up kept next to the spare wheel.

Always Handy just in case I need it on one of my long

trips driven through the night

I suppose I should have explained it's tiny compact size, but I did post a couple of pictures.

Anyway, thanks for the help folkes
