Hi, just joined eriba folk and had first service on our 320 gt to satisfy insurance policy. Used a mobile caravan service agent, but had to take to him because our drive is on a slope. The handbrake doesn't hold properly now and blowed if I'm driving over there again. It took an hour for the service...is this about right for a standard service and dryness/gas safe paperwork? Cost £190!!!. Think I will attempt to adjust brakes myself if I can find a flat surface nearby.

Grant is your van new? The price seems about right for mobile service. If the handbrake needs adjusting get him to re-adjust them at your place. He can adjust brakes either on flat or a slope.
If your van is new you need to get Water Ingress test to be done by Hymer approved dealer for the warranty.

Hi Grant and welcome to Eribafolk.
The price may sound right but the 1 hour doesn't seem right at all. However, if it's a new van so he didn't think it necessary to remove wheels etc then I don't know.
Our van is middle aged now and a running gear only check takes about 90 minutes and costs around £90 from a well recommended mobile engineer.

Just be aware that the handbrake may not work as expected on a slope in one direction. Can't remember if it is forwards or backwards. This is due to the design of the automatic reversing aid built in to most modern vans so that you don't have to jump out and pull over a lever to reverse the outfit.
I got caught out with this a long while back and nearly lost my van in a ditch

My service from a mobile engineer costs just over £200 but it takes him around 4 hours. And not all of that is taken up with us gassing and drinking tea. That includes everything - gas checks, damp checks, wheel strip and brake check, etc, etc...
Yes same here my guy charged £168 which included fitting new brake shoes (supplied by me) took him about 5 hours to complete the service. Very good job. Shame he went back to teaching!
