Canvas mould

Good morning
Brought our 420 back from storage today and disappointed to see lots of small mould spots on the canvas. It has had a Kampa cover and condensation collection pots throughout the winter but still we have spots....
Looking at previous posts people seem to recommend Sunbrella 330 but I can’t find it for sale.....
Any other/better suggestions would be most welcome.

We are also thinking about replacing the red Herzim strip. This looks quite straightforward but, again, advice appreciated if this is not the case!

While it’s here on the drive out of action, I’m also toying with the idea of adding a heating element to our gas only Trumatic (I’ve read the posts) but, at the moment I’m trying to confirm our exact model by taking off the front and looking at the ID plate. It has 2 top controls 1 on the left for the fan and the other on the right for the press down igniter and temp control. I think it’s a S3002P but not sure...
Any tips would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Bob

Bob,
Firstly I would vacumn everything inside then out. If you just want to get the mould off then I would try a wipe with1 part bleach to 4 parts water. Repeated after 48hrs this should kill any spores and you can then wash in place with a mild soap and water. This should clean everything up to a decent level and short of removing and putting through the washing machine it should suffice. The worst that could happen is you will need to reproof the fabric once done.
Your 2006 has the same heater as the 2007 model so I can confirm it is a S3002, but don't know about the P.

Hello Bob

It might be worth bearing in mind that the infill strip fitted at the factory is not Herzim - Herzim is an alternative product that will certainly do the job, but anecdotally it isn't as easy to fit as the original stuff.

I replaced the white awning rail infill strip - essentially the same stuff as the red belly strip, but white instead - on our Troll with OEM strip from Jandi in Scotland.

The job was an absolute doddle. The old stuff pulled out in a trice, and the replacement zipped back in easily. I didn't have to stand it, me, or a selection of mismatched tools in a bucket of hot water for hours to soften or feed it through a caulking gun nozzle.

I used a small nylon car trim removal tool to make sure I didn't scratch the pathetically thin paintwork if I slipped, and that was it.

It really is the proverbial piece of cake.

.

Thanks very much chaps, I’ll certainly try your recipe Colin and your Herzim link was very useful Aaron.

I’ve asked for a couple of samples from 2 ebay suppliers, cherry red and burgundy ( both at 99p mtr) but, like you Pepe, I would like to get close to the original if I can so, thanks for the tip, I’ll contact the excellent a Jandi people.
Thanks
Bob

The canvas in the poptop is synthetic called Sunbrella it is used widely in the marine leisure industry, here is a video/website how to care for it

Bob

For mold on the canvas I use Dettol Mold and Mildew Remover (green bottle) Spray on mold leave for 30 minutes then using soft brush wash off with water then go over again with soapy water (not washing up liquid) rinse and leave to dry. Then spray or paint with reproofer.

Thanks for the top tips, I’ll try both cleaning methods.
The cherry Herzim sample arrived but was not the bright red I wanted but thankfully, I have now managed to find some.
I have also had my front locker struts re-gassed by the excellent Tom Radford at SGS.
What to do first.....
Thanks all
Bob
