I have a 2017 without 12v sockets, just three pin. What is an inverter fir the tv ? I’m looking to get a 12v socket fitted to run to off leisure battery with a solar panel topping up. Would I still need an inverter ? There was previously a solar panel fitted but it was removed and a little white box left behind with usb sockets in it and on the display it says what the battery charge is

An inverter will enable you to generate 230VAC mains from your 12VDC battery. It is not specifically for televisions but for anything which requires mains voltage whilst off-grid. Be warned however, an inverter can rapidly drain your battery! Even assuming 100% efficiency, 2 Amps drawn at 230V will pull over 38 Amps from your battery (most modern inverters have between 80% and 90% efficiency so the load on the battery will be even higher). Rather than trying to run a standard mains rated television through an inverter, you would be far better off investing in a TV specifically designed for camping & caravanning such as Avtex. These can connect directly to your 12V system without the need for an inverter.

Without more information it is difficult to say what the white box is; if you are lucky then it could be a solar charge controller in which case all you would need is a suitably rated solar panel to provide the power. On the other hand it may merely be a battery charge indicator in which case you would need to install a charge controller along with the solar panel. You cannot connect panels directly to the battery without using a charge controller to regulate the current.
