I'm thinking of an external gas point for my Cadac, principally for cooking breakfast fry ups outside of the van to save me cleaning the grease off the pop top canvas regularly!
As I am always off grid I carry two 6Kg propane bottles but it's still a fag to get one out of the gas locker to connect up to my Cadac on a regular basis.
So, I have a 2007 Triton and my question is where do other Eriba Folk have their external gas point along the door side of the van?
Cooking in the awning area for breakfast is OK but for a full blown BBQ I would want the Cadac outside of the awning. What do others do?

My puck has a two gas points on the door side but underneath the van. I'm guessing one for cooking and one for heating. Each connector is a push on type with it's own isolator valve. They are connected to the heater outlet off the gas manifold under the sink. I've never used them and you will probabaly tell me I never should.

Our is on the a frame, it was already on our Eriba, but at the service we had to have it replumbed. It didn’t comply to regs.

After a great deal of thought over many options I have decided to go ahead with the external gas point using a Bullfinch attachment. Thus I have ordered the Bullfinch socket, an 8mm tee, several metres of 8mm hose and clips. I already have 8mm copper pipe at home. I also have sikaflex to mount the connector in the caravan body.
Ordered a 60mm hole saw to cut through the precious Eriba skin. Also two 8mm quick release couplings so that I can have two different lengths of gas hose to my Cadac. A 1.5 m hose for using the Cadac for cooking in the awning, hotplate for bacon and eggs, and a longer length to use the Cadac outside of the awning for a BBQ.
Now I'm aware that the recommendation for hose length is 1.5 up to 2 meters to avoid trip hazard etc. To get to my external BBQ i would run the hose under the caravan with a final 1.5 m away from the van to the BBQ so I am happy that this would satisfy the problem of a longer hose. There is an additional problem with a longer hose and that is pressure drop. I don't think that would cause me a problem with my small BBQ gas requirement.
So the kit's ordered, just got to make that first drill through the Eriba's skin. I'm going to go in between the door and wheel arch, there's enough room to mount the fitting and then an easy route to run the 8mm copper pipe round to tee in to the cooker gas supply.. I might post some pics if I think about it during the project.

Sorry for late reply, our gas copper piping for the outside outlet, had soft solders which don’t comply to regs and were replaced with compression joints.
All sorted by John E
Our bbq gas outlet also has a separate tap to turn it on and off.
Hope this helps Sue

Ray,
I remember somewhere a mention that pipework has to be hard/silver soldered and not soft soldered on some gas pipework, but cannot recall what the gas was this refers to. It would be worth looking into.

Hi Sue, the connections to your external outlet had been soft soldered which is not to regs - I replaced them with compression fittings.

Hi JohnE,
thanks for the clarification on compression fittings. Had me worried for a while because although the gas pipes in my Triton are steel, they still have compression fittings at the manifold and regulator. Also the Bulfinch adaptor's gas inlet is a compression fitting!
Strange that because, as I understand it, it's the reverse for domestic gas fitting behind cupboards or cabinets. No compression fittings and even a flexible to the hob or oven is no longer allowed. The gas pipe's are soft soldered...................Unless of course the regs have changed again!

So, this is the planned position of the Bulfinch gas point.

I was surprised how much metalwork there was in this area. There is room to get the fitting in though. Comes out nicely in to the cupboard under the sink.

I can replace the bend in the cooker gas supply pipe here with a tee and then a short run of copper pipe to the Bulfinch. So the cooket gas isolating valve will isolate cookers inside and out.

I'd be inclined to make a gas drop-out hole in that cupboard if there isn't one already.
By the way, those steel pipes are a nightmare to cut!
