Finally we're getting away this weekend with our brand new recently purchased Thetford porta potti. However, since the campsites toilets have now been opened, I am no longer looking forward to doing anything with this particular plastic contraption ;

May I politely suggest that anybody else out there who is planning on buying one of these fine plastic contraptions does a little measuring first.
When we had our Familia 310 we used one. Unfortunately it was a little low and i had to make a stand for it to sit on.
So, measure up where you are going to store it and buy the tallest you can, or make a booster stand.

We have just returned from a trip to Scotland to visit family. We have always in the past used the onsite facilities for showers and No2 's and only no1 in caravan. We took decision following Pandemic to avoid facilities onsite and in fact stayed at CL's with no facilities so had to use our own. We bought the paper liners for the toilet and let rip.
In reality it is no big deal to poo in your toilet. Do need air freshener but for cleaning out its just the same as emptying a cassette of pee. we will continue this way until we are confident in using onsite facilities.

Ray's suggestion about the cap #4 is a really good one.
Don't be tempted to put the cap on any surface above the waste hole cos of the off-chance of it suddenly slipping and dropping in with the waste. I nearly did it once in Wales when I placed it on what looked like a flat surface above the waste basin and only just grabbed it in time as I saw it start to slip.
A lesson that even I have never forgotten
Not sure if your set up is the same as our Troll but the other thing that fooled me when we first used the toilet proper the fill system for the flush. I filled the filler tube to the top with the pink stuff and it filled easily but when I looked at the see through tube it showed a tiny amount of fluid and when I tried to flush it it didn't work. What you have to do is keep pouring water into the grey filler. It looks as if it should overflow but almost like magic it keeps going in. You can then see it filling the plastic tube with pink stuff ( or green if you use the single one like Colin). Seems so obvious once you know but it had me scratching my head for a while.
I don't like the toilet thing filling up too much as it gets a bit heavy to move to the disposal point even with wheels and so we tend to empty it when it gets about half full. Also I had an unfortunate experience with a full chemical toilet on the front of an old canal barge 40 years ago which has stayed with me ever since. I won't go into details but I'm sure some of the more imaginative souls on the Forum can fill in the gaps.....................!
Good luck with your experiments - it is a doddle really.

The mind boggles regarding your experience on the canal boat!!!!! Decided to add an update following an eventful trip to Norfolk, I have to report that my earlier trepidation about using the Eriba facilities was unfounded, as other reassuring members have posted using the thetford loo and cassette proved to be easy and convenient, I sorted it all, didn't need the husband to get involved in any aspect of this. Would recommend other owners unsure about this to go for it, in our experience I needed to empty the cassette every 3 - 4 days (it was never full at that stage, and not too heavy to take to the chem disposal)
