Just getting our van ready for a trip and found our water pump isn‘t working. Have checked the fuse and got a new (Expensive) pump with no joy. Does anyone have any idea of common faults or tips or tricks to fix this? Any ideas much appreciated.

Pump and fuse OK so only thing left is the tap. These have a micro switch in them that can and does fail. Try searching this on the forum for advice.

I'd get a multitester (or multimeter).

One of the best things about a multitester is its ability to find out where the electricity has gone - if it's disappeared altogether - as well as being able to establish whether a component has failed or not.

A few years ago some geezer called Pepé Le Pew* posted the following about multitesters.

I think he's absolutely right:

'One of its best uses (and this alone will justify the expense) is to check for continuity; i.e. whether or not juice is reaching a component or if the component itself has failed, be it something as basic as a light bulb or something like the element in a fridge. And more often than not using it to check if a component itself has failed doesn't require a live supply to that component, so you can use it with everything turned off and there is no danger of blowing yourself to smithereens.

Even if you know (or think you know) next-to-nothing about basic caravan electrics - and for the most part they are very basic - I would heartily recommend getting one and learning how to use it. A tester which does all the things you're ever likely to require of it won't cost any more than ten or twelve quid.

They are very straightforward things, and YouTube and the Internet are awash with help and tutorials on how to use one.

You'll never look back, and you'll almost certainly save yourself a lot of money into the bargain.'

I had a similar problem but in my case it appears that my whale pump is a activated by a water pressure switch and not an elect contact in the tap. A fiddle with the the pressure adjustment screw got the system working g again..
I think this was a mod installed by the previous owner but maybe worth a check...?

Happened to us also. Sealed micro switch in the tap had gone. Changed the tap. Problem solved :)
