This question is aimed at the many Eriba owners who take their dogs camping with them.
I see that the majority of dogs travel in a big cage in the car but where do they sleep, in the car, in the Eriba or in the awning?
The reason I ask is that due to yesterday's "disaster" with our awning, our cat will now only have the choice of car of Eriba. She travels well in a large (for her size) dog cage and up until now she slept in an even larger dog cage in the awning.
Last night she slept in the van with us and it all went very well but I'd be interested to know if any dogs are happier in the car?

When we had only one large dog he slept in a cage in the awning ,when he was very poorly after being poisoned I reluctantly allowed him in the van , on the floor at the front with the seat cushions and backrests removed to the car. He got better and we got another large dog both slept in cages in the awning, as a trial one night at the Eriba meet in Lincolnshire we put them both in the back of the Landy , the younger one in a cage and the old boy loose in the back. All versions worked fine. Now we have only one large dog (and I'm less OCD about dog hair) she sleeps on the floor at the front of the van. She seems to understand that if she makes any sort of nuisance she knows she'll be back in the awning in the crate. So in our experience it seems that as long as you are close and the dog has familiar bedding, crate, car or van seems to make little difference.

Rue our collie travels in the back of our estate and sleeps under the small dining table at the front. His bed fits in perfectly and we often see him with his head propped up against the table leg
We wouldn't leave him in the awning as he is a bit of an Houdini! 😂 😂

We have a cat who sleeps on the bed in the caravan. She goes for walks on a lead when we return to the caravan.
When travelling she sits in the back of the car with my husband, alternating between her cat carrier and his knee, if she wants to look out of the window.

Our two Working Cockers (now retired after many years due to injuries) usually sleep in our porch awning on their favourite blankets.Sometimes in cages but mostly loose in the awning.Only rarely do they sleep in our Pan Duo because of the lack of space.Going for a night time wee could almost end up with me "wearing them" like a pair of slippers....

Thanks everyone who responded.
It gives us the courage to carry on with our planned trip minus a full awning. We have the Isabella Shadow on board but unfortunately the weather for the rest of this month at least, looks dire. Add to that the fact we've had an Email from one site to say that the toilet facilities have just been declared u/s until early September looks like we're going to have a fun time. We'll all be using the cat litter
Boy, do I camping

I have two 27kg greyhounds. We have come to an arrangement with regards sleeping in the Pan Familia crosswise double bed. There is ample room to accommodate one adult and two dogs in the bed if we each keep to our allotted space. However, my hounds prefer to let me get comfy and then they both gradually encroach into my space until they are more or less on top of me. Pushing a combined 60kg of uncooperative dog off of me is a futile task, so I try to slide myself out from underneath them. We all end up with me pushed in under the rear shelf and the two hounds spread out across the rest of the bed. I generally wake up with a bashed elbow and head from nocturnal movements under the shelf. Works for us! :-)
I’m with Atkinbrown on this one. Our dog sleeps under the small table at the front in our Troll. Never had any problems and she travels in a cage in the back of our Golf estate very happily.

There's always room for little Harry in the Puck. We treat him like a toddler and never leave him out of sight. He wasn't like this when he had his little friend, but now he's on his own he needs the security.

We have two cats that we have taken once with us for a new years weekend in the Eriba, that was fairly successful because we kept the roof down and as we were using the shower block had the litter tray for them in the toilet, night time was fine as they slept on the bed with us (albeit in their minds they let us sleep on their bed with them!!!) one of ours goes mad if he cannot go out day to day and one is almost wholly a house cat so I am still a bit worried about taking them for longer than a weekend, we have a dog cage we use for them sometimes but it is a bit small for them and a bit big for our triton, I am still working on taking less stuff each holiday to leave some room for the cats. At home they love the Eriba, they rush in as soon as the door is open and if we have the roof up just enter and exit via the canvas, I am hoping that as they get a bit older and less skittish we can take them with us on our hols
My Eriba journey has been Puck to Familia, then Troll, then back to Puck. All of this has been with my 2 working cocker spaniels. In a Puck they sleep on the top of the bed with me! A Puck with myself and 2 dogs seems to be an ideal configuration!

We sleep in opposite directions in our Pan. Why? Because our border terrier prefers to sleep beside Paula's pillow. At the very least the dog keeps my feet warm! It's a win win situation...sort of.

Yes, odour eaters are an essential preparatory piece of kit in our Eriba setup. Those would be for me btw :)
Our pug and jet sleep in the puck on the floor, one by the fridge and the other under the bed.
