Hi everyone,
I need to replace my leisure battery in my Familia 320 gt
Must it be a gel or can I use an AGM battery?
Also can I increase the ah ?

Colin, The answer to your questions is yes yes. The AGM battery is deep cycle so is fine for powering a motor mover if you have one and of course the 12 electrics pumps toilet flush lights etc. You can go bigger but remember increasing the ah means the physical size and weight will increase also. So if existing battery fits into a battery box or is located by a frame on floor you would probably need to modify if installing a larger battery.

Hi eribanut
Thank you for your prompt reply.
The manual states that a gel battery should be replaced with a gel Battery because it Goes under the seat however my local caravan dealer did not carry them.
Are the AGM batteries safe to go in the habitation part of the caravan?

It doesn't have to be AGM or GEL, Colin.

If your Familia is fitted with the BIP unit (which has a very basic single-stage charger set to 13.6V) then it's not going to charge either technologies to their optimum requirements, so you might as well save your money and fit a decent sealed lead acid (SLA) battery.

As long as you attach a vent tube from the battery through an adjacent 10mm hole in the floor, it will be perfectly safe in the habitation area.

The battery I specify for caravans with a motor mover and/or off-grid camping use is the Varta LFD90, available from Tayna Batteries. If you dan't have a mover and don't camp off-grid, then the LFD75 will be fine.

Tayna also supply the vent tube.
