It sounds like the microswitch is faulty but it would be worthwhile to have a look under the sink to check that the wires on the connector block haven't been disturbed.
The tap will be either a Reich Trend A or a Reich Kama.
To get to the microswitch:
Trend A - unscrew the tube-shaped lever and take off the cover.
Kama - remove the blue plastic insert from the top of the handle, undo the screw and pull the handle off.
Both taps use the same style microswitch which is a sealed unit - use something like a watchmaker's screwdriver to operate the switch and see if that works.
