caravan service & damp check

I am a little sceptical about what actually happens on a caravan service, I would always have one done but i still remain a little sceptical of the caravan industry. My caravan is booked in shortly for its service at a eriba agent. I asked if they checked the brakes with the drums off & was told they just looked through the hole in the back plate Hmm, to my mind the drums should come off & wash out with brake cleaner & inspect drums & linings. If you don't take the drums off how can you tell if the lining is starting to break down or delaminate!! and new centre hub nuts when refitted. If that's the brakes what happens to the rest! Do you normally pay hundreds of pounds for a cursory glance over.
By the time i empty my caravan, take it there and pick up hours later or next day & re load every thing back & pay hundreds, i don't mind paying in the slightest for a proper job to safe guard my very large investment but my experience with the caravan industry isn't good.

For many years I gave the van underside a visual inspection, clean, regrease etc. A gas fitter friend would also check my gas lines. I would pop the bung on the back of the drum and check pad thickness.
Now I have a new van and my mileage has increased I have a service each year [will resort to every other once out of warranty] and the wheels do come of to clean and inspect along with one shot nuts being replaced.

Own experience of servicing has overall been positive. I've never had a van with a warranty so have only used mobile service engineers. I'm always with them while they do the service and they always take the drums off, check, regrease and replace anything worn out. As with other components - gas, water.
Reputation counts for everything with small businesses. If customer isn't happy, they don't get more work.

Hi Colin

Just a question, if your not taking the brake drums off why do you change the one shot nuts?

Now the van is serviced for warranty purposes they take the drums off and have to re-fit using the one shot nuts.
Prior to this the visual inspection I made each winter did not require the drums coming off or replacement of nuts.
