Another not so gentle kiss on the forehead

I don’t know whether, like me, when I’m on site I do get people interested in my Eriba. They often wish to take a look inside and I must admit I like showing off my Troll. However, to my embarrassment, they sometimes bang their heads on the doorframe when getting out! I don’t blame them I’ve done it myself!
So, I’ve taped a length of pipe insulation on to the frame. (See pic) This has saved a few sore heads so I thought I’d post it on here so that it might help others who come across eager visitors not used to a fairly low caravan door60CEED40-225D-4528-8989-937ABB960E4F.jpeg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

I have read that the simplest solution is to get into the habit of placing your hand on door head when stepping outside. After a few exits it becomes second nature. So no more “gentle kisses”. Works for me!

I had managed to develop a sixth sense in the Eriba that helped me avoid most bumps on the head. Now however, having been out of the habit of wandering around inside the 'van due to C-19 I wonder if I am in for a load of new bruises when we eventually start using it again.

I also use the good Capns technique following many initial bangs on the head - it works.

I find walking out backwards prevents the forehead kiss

I should have added it doesn't prevent the shin scrape when you miss the step

If you also have an Eriba with the single beds and lounge area, like our 540, it doesn't stop you from banging your head where the pop top ends as you go to sit in the lounge area.

Any pride in not banging your head entering or exiting via the main door via the hand or backwards technique soon disappears as you scrape your head on the aluminium pop top surround - made worse if your wife or partner isn't tall enough to suffer this painful indignity........

Mike, we had that problem and now hang a small flag on a bit of bungee cord between the lockers on either side. It’s just enough to draw your attention to an imminent head-butt.

Capn

You are clearly a free thinking ideas man....................................................I shall play around with that idea when Th'Eriba comes out of its winter hibernation.

Did you know that there is a cocktail called a “Fluffy Duck”. It consists of advocat triple sec orange juice and soda. Couple of those and it doesn’t matter if you bang your head. You won’t feel a thing!

Ouch. First time I have bashed my head whilst outside the Eriba. I was just swapping over my wheels to ones with new tyres and when standing up got the door retainer right between the eyes... We are (hopefully) moving soon and looking forward to a really decent spot for our Triton with more than 6" space at the sides, so hopefully this was a one off.

Steve

Make sure that your new house doesn't have a kitchen designed by someone who worked for Hymer.

We have one kitchen cabinet door that is next to our fridge freezer cabinet that is lower than the rest and at Eriba door height. If it is left open it is designed to slice into my bald head.

Twice when I have been in the house on my own (without Kath to close the offending door) I have sliced into my head just about the eyebrow on the corner of the door and drawn serious amounts of blood. I got nil sympathy despite putting on an enormous blue plaster. both times.................
