Hi
On our last journey out we noticed that the fins on the front panel of the Truma heater in our Troll 540 are all broken on the seat side.
Has anybody had this problem, and have they fixed it. Leisure First quoted £150 for a reconditioned panel, so I’d rather try to solder/braze them myself.
Looking for any tips or tricks first though.
Thanks in advance.

I've just had a look at my heater and I cannot figure out how they stay in place as there is a fair bit of wobble/movement in them. I was thinking in similar lines to Ray above, but using a piece of aluminium bent to an L shape and epoxy resined into place. You could spray it black first and I doubt you would notice it.

I can’t spot weld as I don’t have the kit, but do you think if I cleaned off the paint with a Dremel, then soldered a thin steel strip below the broken parts that would solve it? On that particular fine the centre spot weld has gone too. The kids that are broken have literally split in two, it’s the same on all of them.

Hi, I’ve looked at the panel, and the broken lugs are behind a metal panel so I should be ok. I’ve also got some black oven paint for our log burner at home which is a very close match.

Quote: Stewart Page wrote in post #5I doubt the kids would spot-weld effectively, Stewart - but at least they now have twice as many playmates

I have drilled @ screwed/secured every vain, cannot be seen from the front. No spray or touch up required. Spot weld on 90% of mine had gone !!!!

Hi, Finally solved it. I took the front panel off, folded a thin strip of steel, slightly longer on the lower part to provide more support. I then fitted this folded strip either side of the fin lugs by feeding it in from the back. I then used a pencil blowtorch and soldered the strips in place. It is now far more solid than when I got it, and as the black paint on the fins is heat resistant, there was no damage to the paint either. Really pleased with the results, and you would never know from the front.
