Hi All, just had a look in the pack of awning brackets that came with my 530 and notice an unusual black bracket. Any idea as to what its for ??? Photo attached. Thanks, Robbie.

I think they are to create permanent fixing positions on the side a van: they are screwed into the outside of the van and pins/hooks on the awning fit into them
As I said, I think that is what they are for:)
Sorry, just re-read your question about the black handle: no idea am afraid

Sometimes the bottom of the centre support instead of having a spike that fits into one of the three brackets with circular holes has a flattened, spade-like end. I've seen the centre bracket replaced with a slotted alternative to accept this type of awning support on a few occasions.
Just a guess.

Steve,
that is a nice idea on the fitting to have the packing piece stopping the awning track deforming, I've not seen it before.
The brackets are also frequently used when fitting a rear mounted cycle carrier.
I also attached one to my jockey wheel mounted plate for tow ball cycle carrier. I can put a strap through it to tie bikes in place if needed.

Colin, I hadn't noticed that. It must be the previous owner, who was a retired engineer, making his own car and forming all the bodywork himself. He probably made the bracket. I've no doubt he thought of the extra support as he was meticulous in his engineering work.

A close look suggests he cut the bracket as it has been cut out of (aluminium alloy?) plate and bent. You can see crease lines on the inside of the curve bends where it has rubbed against the edge of a vice jaw. The originals were cast steel, usually painted black. I had mine bright zinc yellow passivated, the finish you see on gold coloured screws.
