Eriba door falling apart

Hi, I opened the door of our Eriba today and a jagged section of the aluminium skin fell off at the bottom. It has rotted/degraded basically. Unfortunately I cant seem to upload a picture of the damage. The doors internal box iron frame is now showing at the bottom btw, so pretty bad.

On that, has anybody any experience of repairing or replacing dimpled sections of Eriba skins - like ours?! Im looking at JB aluminium Weld and similiar products. Want to avoid fibreglassing. I also know about the HBC caravan repair system, but lets face it we live in Northern Ireland where specialist repair of anything is science fiction.

Any thoughts are welcome.

This appears to be a similar finish to the Eriba dimpled aluminium.

Also cheap enough to give it a go.

Hi Colin. Although I can't help with your problem of uploading a photo at the moment, for the purpose of emergency can I ask you to try uploading it into a Gallery and once I'm able to I can move it for you.
Any gallery will do as long as you reference it on this thread.

Steve. Many thanks. Never thought of that. Jb weld and a new section might do the trick as the damage is fairly inconspicuous.

Interesting approach to fixing dents at least by this fella on youtube:

I might use some of his idea on this repair - if I can work out what he is saying.

Looking at your photo, this may be more like it.

Handy if you have a Wickes nearby so you can check it out.
Looks to be some serious rust on the internal frame though. This should be dealt with rather than just covering it up.

Hi Steve.
The internal door frame is not as bad as it looks thankfully. Treatment with Kurust should do. I have ordered a strip of 'stucco' aluminium off Ebay as we dont have Wickes over here. Going to be a tricky job as it is almost extending to the outside of the door. Thanks for the link btw :)

Folding the sheet around the bottom may not be as difficult as you think. I doubt you have any folding bars, but if you clamp the sheet between a couple of pieces of plywood you should be able to form a decent L shape using a long offcut of softwood and a hammer. If ofe of the pieces of ply is a bit thicker than the door bottom then you could continue forming it over the ply to get a J shape. Ideally you want to try and cut the material to size whilst still a flat sheet as opposed to after the bending.
I would bond the material into place with lots of Geocel roofers/lead mate mastic. Hold it in place with tape as it could take a couple of days to go off.

Yes, the J shape is exactly what I'm aiming for Colin, since the damage is starting to show on the door front and needs strengthening there also. Going to bond it with JB Weld for metal, and blend the patch in with aluminium paste. Something like that.
