Be warned if you are in need of a service within a set time frame for your warranty.
I have just called Red Lion to book my van in for March 2022, thinking 6 months was a reasonable advance booking time. I was informed nothing available until June and as such have had to make a July booking as we will be in France.
I appreciate things have taken off with lots of vans being sold, but this has taken me by surprise and they are obviously stretched beyond capacity.
I'd have thought it would it be sensible to expand servicing capacity to match the sales capacity.
In the mean time I've e-mailed Hymer to see how this will effect my warranty, but I'm suspecting the worst.

We booked ours in for a service a few days ago for next spring. We were told he only had a few days left between January and Easter. Booked in for end of March before we go to France.....

Finally had clarification back from Hymer.
The supplying dealer is supposed to inform you the first service and water ingress needs to be completed before the end of the first year.
After this 1st year service then subsequent services should be within 6 months or "birthday".
I still do not know if the 6 months is a grace period because of Covid issues.

Looking at Hymers website it appears that they still have a six months grace due to the current situation.

It is my understanding based on experience with AL that you are correct in what you say re the first water ingress check and the six month slippage permitted on subsequent water check. The anniversary date is key in this respect. However the final water ingress check must be done no later than the fifth anniversary date. This means there may be only six months between the final ingress check and the end of the ingress warranty period. Hope that all makes sense!
I've probably contradicted myself with the final times. What I understand from AL is that the first one is at the end of the first year and the fifth at the end of the sixth year and in between slippage is permitted.

That all makes sense Robin. My 5 year ingress will take place in July just before the van is 5 1/2 years old and with 1/2 the caravan season over. When not in use it lives in the garage so I would be taking it out in Feb for the last test, bone dry after 1/2 the previous years season. If any water had wormed it's way in it will have had months of warm, dry storage to hide.

Perhaps you'd better leave it outside throughout the winter prior to its last ingress warranty check 😂😂

We bought our Troll from AL and collected it new in July 2016.
We have had our servicing done at ALV in Tebay, as it is jus over an hours drive away.
When we had our service done in August the engineer thanked us and said that they probably wouldn't see us again and I assumed that that was because the water ingress warranty would run out in 2022...................

Thinking about this, if we are still on Merseyside in 2023, which I doubt, I'd bite the bullet and have a 6th service after just 6 months since the last just for the peace of mind.
The £218 inc vat they charge for a service and Hymer water ingress test has to be a bargain. If our van was over 6 years old I think I'd still take it in, but only every two years.

Robin, that sounds like a sensible compromise if your van is stored outside. Only thing I would add though is the worth of paying for the Hymer water ingress as you are paying for a certificate that is of no value to you. If you paid a good independent caravan engineer he could do the same ingress test for 1/2 the cost and you get any warnings flagged up, which is what you really need.

Like you I believe it would get entered on the Hymer database as you have paid a £70/80 fee for a certificate to prove/record the water ingress check you have paid for. I questioned the value as if anything was found Hymer would not do anything. If you had a good independent do the same check, the cost could be 1/2 of that and would flag up anything that a Hymer dealer would find. If the cost difference is not so great or the convenience factor outweighs it then it makes no difference.
I suppose what complicates matters is the vast difference in service and water ingress costs between independent and Hymer, along with the differences between different Hymer dealers. I believe the £218 that Red Lion charges for the service and water ingress is half of what some dealers charge.

Hi Colin
Just checked our documents provided by ALV after our August Service which was £330 incidentally.
There is a Leak test protocol document and then a Inspection protocol - both appear to be Hymer generated. I'm certain that ALV keep a copy on file but unsure as to if they send anything to Hymer.
Interestingly the Month of leak tset part of the Leak Test protocol only has tick boxes going up to 60 months, almost suggesting that Hymer don't expect owners to continue after this time. Curiously the Month of inspection execution tick box on the other form goes up to 72 months.
I have no problem with ALV's service but think that for ease of not having to drive to Tebay & probable lower cost we will look to find a good local independent engineer to carry out the service & ingress test..
