Hello Everyone
Newbie here - in every sense of the word - as have never owned a caravan. Had a T6.1 campervan which I enjoyed but was much too small for us and, beautiful as it was, it was really not very practical. Anyway, to cut a long story short... the other half met an old friend the other day and she said that they had been having a great time touring in their Eriba 430GT...and, if we were willing to bury our prejudices, it was a great way to see the UK and Europe.

10 days later and I have trawled though the internet, studying every website I can find and have, I think, settled upon trying to find a 530GT (pre the 2023 new look).

There seem to be a lot of expensive 2023 versions around with a lot of extras, but I have been told that they aren't as well built, possibly not as stable and that they are sitting unsold at the relatively new dealers because they bought a lot and paid too much.

Any advice gratefully received,,,,from the necessity of awnings/movers through to preferred fabrics!

TBH, however, other than the 10 or more 2023's and 2024's the second hand market seems quite sparse. On the basis that I am not desperate to buy in the coming months, can I afford to wait for the perfect one to come along or do I need to jump in as soon as I see one I quite like (e.g. the 2019 530GT in Poole?

Welcome to the Forum.
I may be biased but good call on a 530GT, we love ours, it’s a bit older,2008 but all good.
From what I gather of the market it may well be a good time to do a deal, vans do seem to be sitting on forecourts, not that I really know anything about new or newish vans. If you can, try and sit in a few vans to see which layout suits you best.
Good luck in your search, hope you find your perfect Eriba.

Finn,
Eriba availability and prices are "variable", more so at present as the used caravan market is not in a good place. In fact this has been the case for the last couple of years.
Prices of new vans are very high and the nearly new likewise, as the owners who bought them are now two years later wanting to move them on and trying for high prices.
The sweet spot seems to be about 5 years old, and if you look here you'll probably find a couple that are already on your short list. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/caravans/used-caravans/eriba The essential extras that can easily add about £5 to £6k on a new van will now have been absorbed, so you should be able to find something suitable.
Having owned 4 Tourings over 20 years my favourite is the white over silver outside colour scheme. This suits the van and does a decent job of disguising the horrific wobbly panels that are frequently found on the larger Eriba's, in particular the Trolls. It was for this reason I could not bring myself to buy my last Touring as at the time the only smooth finish available was silver, so I went for less popular white dimpled.
The extras I think you need to go for, for aesthetic and practical reasons are the biggest axle available [1300-1400kg], battery set-up, Motor Mover, alloys and a spare, on-board water tank, hot water [electric only is fine unless you really want to go off grid], electric heating element to the Truma and blown air system. The lack of a 3 burner hob is not really a deal breaker as space is tight [I like many usually use a single portable induction hob that covers most needs and can go outside], a front cycle carrier is nice and most other extras such as sockets, tv point etc can easily be added.
The awning debate is another topic. You may be lucky and find a van with the £1,300 Thule roof cassette 6300 fitted, but if not then my advice would be buy a second hand Isabella Shadow 360. This is a sunshade that you can put up in 5 minutes, gives excellent sun protection and when pitched correctly suprisingly good rain protection for two to sit outside. I would run with this for the season and you may find you need no more, but a pair of end panels as in this link on my Feeling really do help. With just the two of us we no longer use an awning as we have found with a van of the same layout and size we have enough room inside when the weather turns. https://www.comfortzleisure.net/product/...-style-awnings/

Keep on asking if you have any questions.

Colin

To recover from the shock of paying Eriba prices perhaps?
