If all goes according to plan, I intend to keep the 310 for many year to come, so I think we will go for the Reich Comfort. This seems a popular choice and according to AL most owners go for this.
As we are in Co Durham, I have been looking at Midland Motor Movers as recommend. They do a home service and have a picture of an Eriba on their site. Has anyone had one fitted at home? Do they jack the caravan up? In a workshop I guess they would put it on a ramp or something.
I guess the price quoted on the site, does not include the specialist brackets need for an Eriba because Midland seem a lot cheaper than AL.

Seem to be a fair amount of happy customers from Midland Movers..........can't comment really from own experience, as A/L fitted ours 4 yrs ago, as we purchased our van from them, and needed it fitted before bringing it home ( needed to run van in towbar first, onto our drive ) Still remember the price tag of about £1400, ouch !! Best of luck..........Reich mover is still a great bit of kit though, couldn't function without it... Ian.

I was in exactly the same boat as you Ian, I did get a quote from midland motor movers at the same time and they were about £200 cheaper including the brackets

Hi, we had a comfort Reich mover fitted by Midlandsmotormovers in the Autumn last year. They were really good, fitted in about 2 hours on our Triton. The mover goes on upside down to give maximum clearance. Nice bit of kit, have a pair of batteries so hope that will be OK! Our drive is pretty level so no problem at all, just the pavement ramp to get over. Sure beats pushing it! Would recommend them and that mover.

Great, thanks for that recommendation. We keep the 310 in a storage compound and it would mean I could get it out and put it away much easier too.
Did they come to your home to fit it?

Yes they did. They seem happy to do the job anywhere and did not need a lot of room or to jack up the van.

Hello,

I'm having my mover fitted later this month at home. I have the 310 with spare wheel / carrier. Apparently, this means the cross actuation kit (Reich Comfort) will not fit because the spare wheel cage is in the way. I have two options; I can either wind out the rollers on each wheel or carry the spare in the boot.

Carrying the spare in the boot would reduce the weight, but would be more hassle and restrict the boot space. On the other hand, without the cross actuation kit I'd need access to both sides of the van.

The question here would be, how much space do I need to be able to wind out the rollers?

My drive is next to the wall of the garage; I don't store the 310 here but it may be an overnight option at some point in time. If leave it a foot or so off the wall would this give me the room to get down the side and wind them back in?

Alternatively, if parked on the drive (or in a storage area) and I cannot access both sides, can the rollers simply be left against the wheels until the next time I need to move the 310?

Thanks.

Hello Philip

If you've got enough room to bend down by the side adjacent to the wall you'll have enough room to be able to wind the roller on, but not with a traditional cranked wheelbrace. One of those is longer than I suspect you are across your middle. You'd need to use something shorter like a ratchet and extension (which is harder work) or a cordless drill fitted with the appropriate socket.

I wouldn't leave the rollers wound on to the tyres. They exert a fair amount of pressure on the tread to prevent slippage in operation, and that pressure would likely leave a dent in the rubber.

The tyre would probably regain its shape reasonably quickly, but I reckon it'd be better not to push it in for an extended period in the first place.

For what it's worth, I think mechanical components are always best left at rest rather than under a constant and prolonged tension or compression that they weren't necessarily intended for.

.

Hmmm...... this is where the Eriba dealers start to justify why their motor movers are more expensive, the Famiia has a know problem regarding the wheel carrying cage been too close to the motor mover cross actuation mechanism. If you look at the picture of my Familia 320 spare wheel cage has had an offset put in the back to accommodate the motor mover bar. The black plastic bag you can see is wrapped around my tyre to protect it from the elements.

If I was you I would still opt for the cross actuation kit and carry the spare in the car until you can modify the cage, maybe it is something you can do yourself or take it to a steel fabrication workshop (gate makers etc)

As a point of interest you can see the special bracket bolted to the chassis that all Eribas require to fit the motor mover

Thank you both for the information - very informative. So, looking at the second photograph you have had a slight curve put in the metal of the cage so it avoids the cross actuation kit. I guess the wheel must still fit in there ok. This is the way forward for me. I don't think I would be able to bend it, but I could have a go fastening the cage back on afterwards.

Is it easy to do, or was this done by a dealer? (Mine did not mention this and was £240 more expensive than the mobile fitter, plus a 1.5 hour drive away).

I bought the van from Automotive Leisure (AL) and I had the motor mover fitted at the same time, AL would have modified the wheel carrier. The spare wheel still fits in the cradle ok with no problems...

I had my mover fitted today by Midland Motor Movers. Richard did an excellent job and I am really pleased with it. He even adjusted the spare wheel carrier to fit.
I would thoroughly recommend them.
