I've just been asked about these green badges, so thought I'd repost the following link:-
For those wishing to purchase the "German Emission Control Badge" this is the cheapest place and they are also very efficient. You'll need to scan a copy of your vehicle log book to Email to them and your badge arrives within a matter of days.

Aptly timed Roger as they're really tightening up on controlling these Umwelt Zones as they are known.
Well they've got to find the cash to prop up Greece from somewhere haven't they lol?

This was mentioned on the BBC News only this morning:-

Thanks for the links - we last got our emission sticker for Germany in 2009. Does anyone know how long they're valid for & whether I should reapply?

As Randa states, they are valid for the life of the vehicle unless there have been any material changes.
As the sticker was issued on the basis of the information contained in the vehicle registration document (V5 is it?) then as long as nothing has been modified/changed on the vehicle e.g. a new exhaust fitted that doesn't meet the standard stipulated in the document then you're good to go.
