on some policy's new for old is up to 15 years old
I looked on it if something happened whether on site or on road, it was fully covered for everything, we humans would be covered as well for hotel, not sure about the boys..
obviously we drive carefully..
its belt and braces when far from home, say if the neighbours unit caught fire and it spread past 6 metres, remember the top gear caravan chip cooking drama, if anything this highlighted the need for some insurance...
thanks for sharing your facts and figures, lots to work out and places to ring..

It would appear that Towergate don't offer a no claims bonus
I think they do.

We're with Towergate too. We were invited to renew a month or so ago with a 60-odd% increase in the premium. I rang them up and asked why when the only thing that had changed was that we were all a year older; me, them, the caravan - everything.

A discussion ensued, punctuated at intervals by the very nice girl going off 'to speak to her superior'. I reckon she went outside for a smoke, but there you go.

The upshot of it all was that several previously unknown discounts magically appeared and we renewed at the same cost as last year.

Chancers and wide boys, the lot of them.

Nobody is any better than anyone else. If they can screw you over they will. Ethics, morals and honour are in short supply in the insurance industry despite their weaselly protestations to the contrary.

They'll dash off a renewal notice with some ludicrous premium just on the off-chance that someone will cough up without questioning it or checking elsewhere.

And the sad thing is that it must work some of the time, otherwise they wouldn't do it...

.

So there's every likelihood that I'll get nowhere with them if I phone for they are already matching last year's price. I'm going ot give it a go anyway and have a bash at Mr Calder's company as well.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Be daft not to. You've got nothing to lose.

Good luck!

Hi, We are with Cover4Caravans (same as Aaron). We had a requote from CC and it had increased by £50 to approx. £350. With more time this year as we only thought of insurance the day we were picking the van up!!, we shopped around. We too, went on a comparison website and Cover4Caravans came up the best deal. Online they quoted £154. We have learnt before this won't be the final offer!!. 48 hours later the phone rang and it was them and they offered us the same package, but at £114...£40 less. It was more or less the same as CC. On the actual day our insurance was to run out, we had another letter from CC and this time offering the insurance for approx. £230. I do hate these games they play. Be aware...we couldn't find an insurance package that covered cameras or laptops left in the van. Regards Chris

They're all a bunch of rogues. My Dad has just got his household insurance renewal at £112. He's 89, practically housebound with all the security etc, so a fairly low risk. I went online, shopped around and got it down to £74 with another reputable company. Phoned to stop the automatic renewal of his current insurance, when they heard he was leaving they immediately dropped the quote to £84, too little too late I told them. It really annoys me, if they can do it for £84 why send out a renewal of £112? Because they think you are daft enough to cough up without checking around. Toerags the lot of them

It seems to me that a lot of you are worried about foreign cover? and the duration of that cover? that beiing the case why not buy seperate cover or indeed insure your van offshore? When we were in Germany we were covered and insured through the AA who would provide cover through ADAC. When we came back to the UK we had changed it around due to currency fluctuations, so then we were with ADAC with cover provided in the UK by the AA.

As I say it's just a thought and worth a look

Randa

First off I've had a quote from Cover4caravans (Mr Calder's company) and it would appear he's had a really good deal for I was only able to get a quote for £157 and our van is a lot less valuable than Brian's.

However, Towergate AA have sharpened their pencil and I've managed to get 20 quid off our premium with them. Not a lot I know but it does bring it to within shooting distance of the few other quotes I've had.

It's all very annoying I know. The AA are famous for it and earlier this year when I had to make my annual phone call to re-negotiate our family breakdown cover I had the most dreadful experience with a stroppy yob and his supervisor had to rescue the situation or lose a customer with 18 years standing.

For my 1990 Puck I was quoted £138.72 by A plan, but rang Mr Calder's company and was quoted £95.00. This came down to £85.00 when I rang to accept the quote. My excess is down to £100 from £150 and contents were also covered. All in all, my regards to Mr Calders post and his company for the information . 🖖

I should clarify that my only connection with Cover4Caravans is as a satisfied customer but it is comforting to think of them as 'my company'. I wish.

Just had my car insurance renewal quote from 'Quote Me Happy' (a branch of Aviva - formerly Norwich Union) and at £145 fully comprehensive with protected NCB and free legal cover it is £10 less than I paid last year! The premium reflects a £20 multi-car discount as Mrs Calder's Honda Jazz is also insured with them for £155, with the same benefits and a £15 multi-car discount.
