How often do you need to access the electrics?

Hello again!!!

I'm thinking of turning the bed in Millie Puck into a more permanent one. It sags in the middle balanced on the 2 poles & it's such a faff setting it all up again in the morning. We spend all of our time in the awning anyway with the dogs so haven't sat at the table yet!!. Planning on putting a piece of board in the gap in the middle & a 4" memory foam mattress on the cushions as they're a bit firm on the old hips.

Question is.... how often would I need to access the electrics in the cupboard under the bed?

And is there any screamingly obvious reasons why this is a bad idea? I'm renown for them.

Sod's Law dictates that you'll need to access the electrics within a short but indeterminate period after having made them inaccessible.

It's not terribly helpful, but that's often the way it works out.

Hi, I hope the answer is rarely!!! as we too have put in a permanent bed. We found a 4'6" gel mattress worked with our van as one corner is slightly more curved than the others. We went round testing mattresses to see if we could 'misshapen' the corner as many have internal springs that make this impossible. Our mattress is 7" thick. We found this a great improvement on the existing cushions. We have wrapped and stored the cushions just in case we sell in the future.

Haha. Sods law. That's the screamingly obvious one I've missed!!!

Thought of the curved corners campnsnooze - I was going to buy a deep custom made memory foam mattress & store the cushions like yourself but the cupboard at the top end is about 3" taller than the benches. T'was a dark moment when I noticed I can tell you!!

So I've opted for a 4" memory foam mattress topper which I can cut to shape before it puffs using the curved cupboard lid as a guide & place it on top of the cushions. I'm surprised to learn after measuring though the bed is a king size when measured across. Didn't see that one coming, it looks tiny!!!

Make sure there is plenty of ventilation if you restrict
access and that any panels are quickly removable.

Thanks Crow. Thought of that. It'll still have the gap underneath for airflow to the battery & the middle panel of the base will be balanced on the poles so can be removed & the hinged panel be lifted. It just won't be as easy a job as it is now to access in there as there will be a huge topper to wrestle with!!

We leave our Familia 320 bed made up when we are using the porch awning, you just have to remember to take everything out from under the benches that you require. You will only forget the once.....

technically your supposed to ensure the electric trip is off before, attaching the hook up lead from eriba to power post, then you should trip the power on in eriba..

then when un pitching should trip power before disconnecting hook up lead from power post then eriba
think you need an access door if going with the belt and braces approach
other wise just ensure don't electrocute yourself

Good point! Advice regarding this can be found in the links in this post: Electrical safety

if you put a permanent bed in, this stuff is a good idea as it stops moisture building up under the mattress, which is something that happened to me, this cured it.

Ha ha. My shopping list gets longer and longer!!!

Do you need to buy enough to cover the whole of the bed? It would possibly be cheaper to get a new matters the start of every season!!!
