Is my car charging my battery

Hi all, this subject might have been covered but I can't find it, my question is this. Since having my 13 core cable replaced between car and van(original worn thru dragging on the floor) I checked all lights are ok and fridge switch light illuminates on hook up to car with ignition on, so I presume working as before but I don't know if my leisure battery is taking a charge. Normally when at home my Eriba is on constant charge via mains from my garage, I recently did a check and my battery disconnected from the mains inbuilt charger was 13.40v, when connected to charger went up to 13.78v. I recently moved the caravan with my mover and my battery on checking went down to 12. 88v and when connected to the car at about 2000rpm only went up to 12.89v is this ok? Is there anyway of checking the feed at the car socket and which pin feeds the leisure battery and which is the earth pin. The mover also cut out, but restarted, I presume it has a thermal overload and was getting a tad warm with use. Thanks in advance. Brian

Do you have a Schaudt Booster fitted? It's the box with perforated cover to the left of the BIP unit in the picture.

The booster governs the charging rate when the caravan is attached to the car and has a specified output voltage. I'm sure I've seen it on the forum recently but for the moment can't find it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks, Pete.

Didn't you retrofit a Schaudt unit to your Troll? I seem to remember someone quoting the output voltage previously.

I did, but it was to the 230 we had previously.

The Troll hasn't got one, but as we seem to be managing okay on 13.8v from the alternator I haven't given it any thought.

Doh!

The elusive, half-remembered source of the Schaudt Booster output voltage was my own article on "How to Modernise Old-Fashioned BIP Electrics" in the "How to: ..........." section of the forum. I knew I'd seen it somewhere.

If we had a "What a prat!" smiley, I'd add it here.

There is a vented box next to the battery not the same as the one in your picture, I presume this is the charger.
