We are travelling from Cheshire to Poole to look at a Familia 320 on Saturday. May bring it back with us. Very excited. Has anyone any views on whether the Unicon Bologna awning is better than the ones AL sells? We had a caravan over thirty years ago - hope we still like it thirty years on! Have enjoyed reading the forums- very useful. I'm sure we will have lots of questions next week! I noticed someone else in Cheshire recently bought an Eriba- I wonder if we are near each other? We are south of Manchester.

Will take your advice and have a good look around. What in your opinion would be the ideal? Do you think the Familia is too small? It is just for the two of us but we are much older this time around. Both in our sixties although I still can't quite believe it. Or were you referring to the awning not the caravan?

Thanks Chris and Keith. Looking forward to putting names to faces one day. My husband is Algy and I am Helen. Suppose I should have put that in the first post

Hi Helen and Algy and welcome to Eribafolk. We're sure you'll really enjoy your trip to AL even if you come away empty handed.

Regarding your question about the Familia 320 we were in the same position as you when we first decided to buy an Eriba. In our opinion the 320 is the prettiest of the range to look at having the perfect proportions. It's also the smallest in the range to have a built in toilet/washroom.

Like you, we visited AL hopeful of purchasing a 320 but by the time we had arrived there, it was gone. At that time AL would only hold a van if we paid a £500 non-refundable (but transferable) deposit. We spent quite a few hours there looking at the stock and as soon as Mrs R saw our current van, a Troll 530, she was sold.

Most people will agree that the problem with the 320 or any of the other cross-sleeping vans (including ours) is that they are inconvenient if the one sleeping on the inside needs to get up in the night. Therefore the 420 Triton is the better option as it's a long bed sleeper. However Tritons are not as easy to manoeuvre as the smaller vans and in the future you might possibly need to add a mover. Don't forget that although you maybe a fit couple of 65 now, We suppose you'll still be in love with your Eriba in 5 years time.

One point to remember is that generally speaking, older Eribas are generally lighter in weight and are therefore more easy to manage that the newer ones. Generally, we're talking about those built before 2000 but ask the question. Drawback? Lighter vans have less payload.

R and A

Thanks. They look very well made. Are they the same as Isabella -ie do Unicon make the Isabella awnings for them? Do you know if you have to pay any extra taxes if you order directly from Holland?

Thanks R and A- we have had a mover added to the one we have put a deposit on already- where did you get 65 from!! I am neare 60 but admittedly hubby is older... Thanks for the toilet tip... I guess the one that needs the loo would have to sleep on the outer side then !

Each of us have different idea's of what is right for us, what I'm trying to say is don't buy the one you are going to see without looking at other sizes and layouts first.
Often people start with a small model for various reasons (myself included) and end up in a year or so selling it on to get a bigger one (also myself included)
It can be a big financial outlay so have a look and a think and maybe even come away without one ............you can always go back again

Have you seen the layouts in the picture album?

Good luck with your visit and enjoy whatever you get.

What's this Helen, a woman fibbing about her age, but to her disadvantage ( quote:- Both in our sixties although I still can't quite believe it.)

Seriously though, we're sure you'll love the 320. Owning an Eriba is a bit special and you'll get lots of admiring looks when you're on your travels.

Randa.

So it's official now, folks. The great Randa has spoken.

Just thought we'd get it in before you Brian

However, we still wouldn't trade in our 530 for one. To paraphrase Hob :- "Each to their own"

ps. In your quote you (conveniently) missed out the "most people".
