Hello Deeps thanks for the welcome and wise advise, so that is something to bear in mind especially as we will be storing the van on our forecourt (with a cover on of course in the winter), although we plan to use it all year round but realistically less in winter months!
It sounds like your ex Navy? Mercury is 10 mins up the road from us, my hubby was based at Eastney barracks when I met him many moons ago and as I was training at St Mary's with the Naval nurses we got invited to many Naval social dos happy days!

..................happy days!
Happy Days indeed. You should recognise the photo of the Rising Sun at Clanfield but I bet you can't remember it as it was way back when it was nothing more than a wooden hut which they started building after breakfast one morning and by the evening were pulling their first pints lol. Oh, and the other picture is nothing more than two old mates meeting up again at the Rising Sun in the summer of 2013 having last run into each other way back in 1963 at the R.N. training school HMS Ganges. The Navy was many hundreds of ships strong in those days so keeping up with old mates was difficult to say the least but now, thanks to the likes of Facebook, I and several others are swinging the lamp over a pint or two once again. I'll probably get told off now for going off-topic.

My comment on service, my mobile engineer (who I rely on for things I can't do myself) like brakes chassis maintenance wheel bearing greasing etc plus gas checks (must be properly trained) suggested to me 5000 miles or every 2 years would do. He also tells me everyone wants this work done in the spring before their first trip of the year so if you are finished touring for the year now is a good time for a service when service personnel are not so busy.

With the above in mind and 18 months and 2800 towed miles since the last service today my mobile engineer came and did a complete service.
The wheels came off and the brakes were checked things on the chassis were greased, gas water and electrics all checked including emissions from the gas heater and fridge, a damp meter was used to check the internals for damp and so on, at the end of about 4 hours I got a full service check-list of tested items and any problems found.
Items that need attention,
Tyres one is slightly out of round and they are 5 years old. ................... it can stand on them over the winter and I can get new ones in the spring.
One of the 2 number plate lights is not working. ...................... something else to look at in the spring.
Number plate is different to the car. .............I have a new one ready to fit.
Cost £170.00
very happy with that.

Otherwise I'll try AL if I can't find one that's recommended, or listed Under the CC thingy.

A couple of questions, Nev.
What is that hefty looking chunk of metal (?) leaning to the left of the gas locker, and 2, have you thought about putting wheel/tyre savers under the wheels whilst the van is left standing? Concrete and rubber do not marry well together as the silicone is sucked out of the rubber. For £15 well worth the investment imho. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fiamma-Wheel-Sav...n/dp/B00BTI15DI

Hi Alan, it's his gas testing equipment. Will look at those tyre savers but no need to use them this winter as the tyres will be replaced in the spring.

Although our van is parked up on soil and grass, we've used tyre savers for a number of years. We also have 600mm x 600mm square sheets of 16mm polycarbonate under the tyre savers.
It may be a bit "belt and bracers" but they lift the tyres off the damp ground by about 35mm and insulates them from any ice. Works for us anyway
