Hi we just got ourselves a Troll, and might be a silly question, but do we need 2 black drain containers? i had a quick look and looks like there is a drain each side.?

Hi Steve and Jools.
This is a thread that might be of interest to you. Waste water containers (2)

Once you get to #22 you'll see that Arwie is faced with the same problem as you but many Eribas have had their two grey water outlets joined.

(ps. I've moved this thread from the Links section otherwise it would have remained unanswered )

I don't suppose you know what size the pipes are on the waste please?

Hi Steve, is it a new Troll? my 2015 Familia has a water waste pipe on the toilet side which connects all the waste pipes, I also have another ribbed pipe that is underneath the fridge which I assume is for the fridge. I presume that you haven't used your van yet, it may be worth dropping a bit of water down your plugs and see what comes out where...

Sorry but I can't help you there as our van is wrapped up for the winter. I'm guessing at about 19mm but are you able to check the exisiting outlets?

As well as more piping you'll also need a straight connector, a Y connector and some plastic pipe brackets. All will be obtainable (once you've established the pipe size) from any reputable caravan accessory outlet

When I did our old Burstner, I used a 90° bend and a straight pipe connected to a t piece and another 90° with a downpipe attached. Easy to do, I lagged ours as the same time, pipe lagging and black electriciains tape or cable ties, hth

Hi, and welcome.

There are two outlets beneath our Triton 430, one for the kitchen sink (there's a drain from the hob, too, which connects to this one), and one from the washroom hand basin. We have a wheeled Fiamma container that takes the kitchen water, and a regular plastic bucket that fits under the washroom drain. I find it easier to keep them separate. In transit, the Fiamma fits nicely inside the washroom while the bucket goes in the gas locker and holds brush and dustpan etc.

If you crawl under the Eriba you might find a third outlet. That's from the plug hole in the washroom floor, but I don't know anyone brave enough or foolish enough to use the shower, so that drain is more or less redundant. However, when you store your Eriba it's worth putting a bung in each of the three outlets to keep out the mice.

Hi Martyn,

Just saw your advice re waste water pipes. I've just bought a 1999 Troll T and an completely new to caravanning. Seen a few comments about mice etc getting in through the waste pipes. Where to you get suitable bungs from (sorry for stupid question).

Thanks for the info, ours is wrapped up for now and at a storage place sadly, so i will just have to wait until we go over again to measure the pipes, i will then order the bits and connect up, probably lag them aswell as seems a good idea whilst i am at it.

cheers

I must admit to approaching what I'm about to write with some trepidation, mostly because Mr Agger frightens me, but here goes...

I can't really see any merit in lagging flexible waste pipes. The only pipes vulnerable to frost damage are those - usually rigid ones - which are full of water and in which there is no room for the water to expand if it freezes. Your waste pipes are well bendy, and there shouldn't be any standing water in them anyway.

I reckon your time is probably better spent rooting out a decent recipe for mulled cider.

Mulled cider. Mmmm...

The only reason we lagged ours was because we had experienced "frozen pipes" in our previous Burstner. The original Eriba design of waste water outlet is a straight down pipe, which is fine, but if you add a horizontal pipe and put warm/hot water through it, it will bend/bow unless you are able to secure it every few inches or so. Having been there and not wanting to go there again I made the choice to lag the pipes in the Burstner, I never did with the Eriba as we only used the kitchen sink and that only very occasionally, when on site we used facilities, so just did'nt need a grey water carrier, and for those that say they are heavy empty hem more often!

I hope that explains our thoughts

I hate to be pedantic (and please don't be cross with me), but no waste pipe should ever be horizontal. They should always have a fall to avoid any water standing in them. I agree that they will bow temporarily when heated, but I reckon that if you're going to spend time on your back under the van, it's better spent making sure there are plenty of supports for the pipe rather than winding lagging and tape round it. Pipe supports are two a penny and it's easy to fasten them to the underside.

I agree with that BUT I just know that unless you "highlight" these things people will learn the hard way! I was surprised that we suffered frozen pipes on the Burstner as we did have a "fall" on the pipe, I think on hindsight we possibly put hot water through it when it was cold outside and that caused a bow. I never went on my back under the van in hose days I had access to a pit!
