If you want a testimonial as to the quality and fit then I am sure those who bought before can vouch for them (Tony P for example)

Just finished making mine, fitted the tow ball and the Thule ball mounted bike carrier. Cut out the pattern from 10mm thick steel with a cutting wheel in my grinder, filed, drilled and painted. Really pleased especially when I got the steel free! Just asked my local steel supplier for any spare waste ‘cut-offs’. Lucky me got a 300mm square piece (about 12 inch square). Give the chap a fiver for his good will. Sometimes being cheeky pays!

Cutting wheel in the grinder, luxury, I had to cut mine by hand. I had an off-cut of 3/8" angle iron from when I had bolted a winch to the garage floor.I did have access to a good pillar drill with slow speed for drilling the holes though.
I was also lucky in that one of the GCSE students I taught father had a metal finishers and MOD contract. I managed to get the bracket bright zinc yellow passivated and then powder coated in grey.

Luxury? Sawing 10mm plate by hand? For the cost of a cutting disc in an angle grinder you’ve gotta be nuts he he! I thought you said you were a CDT teacher! We always thought of the easiest way to do things but to think you cut yours by hand I am in awe! I bow to your tenacity. Well done! And.....if any of you are reading this I now have access to quite a bit of 10mm thick plate! If you need some and are prepared to pay postage you can have a prepared blank for free! First come first got until run out!!

I must confess I tried a cutting disc in my grinder, but it must have been a crap one so I gave up.

Although I do ask myself how you would know of that Brian?

Apologies if this has already been covered, but has anyone tried the new Hymer/Eriba Touring towbar bicycle rack?

At €395. Are you serious?

(Note use of ' cheapest' in thread title.)

I believe the lovely Mr and Mrs Frantone have this on there new mobile palace. It a lovely engineered piece of kit. When you consider it obviously includes the rack, which tilts for gas locker access the prices becomes a little less eye watering. If I was not practical and ordering a new van I would give it serious consideration, especially on a low noseweight van.

I know it’s not cheap and apologies if my question has upset anyone, but I do have a low noseweight, a need to carry bikes and insufficient time available to make one.
I think that the Hymer/Eriba unit may actually be the Thule one rebranded. That comes in at about £240. Relatively good value.

No need to apologise. My fault for being such a sarcastic old sod.

The details of the bracket has been really helpful. However the housing for the jockey wheel on my Puck has only two bolt holes rather than the four shown in the pictures in the original post. I am not sure whether this will provide sufficiently secure fixing for the cantilever for the tow ball and the weight of the bike and rack. Advice on whether two bolts would be sufficient gratefully received.
