I was wondering where people have there ultra heat thermostat and controls in the caravans we are just fitting ours and can't decide where the best place is photos would also be great.

Ours is a troll 550 but all ideas are helpful. If we don't position it above the fire itself we need anextension kit and as its montes to the caravan we want topsoil ion it tight in the first place. I know you guys will help you have all been so helpful

Our control/thermostat is mounted on the side of the wardrobe above the fire and frequently turns the Ultraheat off before the van is warmed sufficiently.
There is a remote sensor kit available which comes with a 5 metre lead. I think it overrides the thermostat but the control stil operates so you could choose the control unit position for convenience and put the sensor in a cooler part of the van.

Seems awfully complicated. Couldn't you just turn it on when you got cold and off when you got hot?

Tony has confirmed what I suggested in my posts in a similar thread in January of this year Ultraheat i.e. that if the control switch is mounted on the wall of the wardrobe, the thermostat will be inefficient in its operation.

To overcome this, you need to fit a remote sensor that overrides the one in the switch and mount it at floor level as shown in the picture in my post.

You would think so wouldn't you but the thermostat on max cuts out at about 19° C in the living area leaving much of the van cool.
It cannot be increased (over ridden? over rode?).

Mine was already fitted when I bought it and the controller is about 5ft from the ground between the wardrobe and the wash room doors. As I camp off grid it has only been used over winter to keep it from frost and as such is very handy. As to the problems others have mentioned with the position of the thermostat, I can't help as I've only looked to achieve 6-7 degrees which it does without me knowing where the thermostat is!

What is the easiest way to determine if I have the remote sensor fitted?

The remote sensor is a small black button thingy about the size of a 10 pence piece.
It will be mounted on the furniture somewhere and connected into the fire by means of a cable with a small jack plug.

The main control usually goes on the outside of the wardrobe, I had problems initially with my Ultraheat that it would cut out when the inside of the wardrobe reached the set temperature. You can buy a temperature override kit, it just plugs in at the bottom and then the thermocouple bulb is strapped the the bottom of the gas fire. It works really well, I got mine from Arc systems, it came with a very easy to follow instruction sheet

He is an electrical wizard well known on the caravan chat forum, if you use the email contact info@arcsystems.biz and explain that you require a remote sensor for Truma Ultraheat. It cost me about £21 four years ago.

I like the seller's detailed explanation of how the heater works and the importance of installing a remote thermistor to provide better temperature stability.

His price is very reasonable too.

The bypass thermocouple units should be a standard fixture if the Ultraheat units are been fitted by Eriba dealers, surely it must be common knowledge that by putting the controls on the wardrobe above the fire it is going to keep cutting out...
