Wrecked

Just got home from Italy by train after a bad accident, our van was rammed from the rear at about 40 mph as we slowed down to enter a roundabout, the whole back is caved in, all the furniture detached, we were hit so hard our swan neck tow ball was bent then broke, the caravan then jumped off and hit the car and deformed the tailgate, and rear frame, luckily neither we nor the other party were hurt other that a few bruises, 6 years of work down the drain, at the moment we both feel gutted.

Oh dear Dave and Bunny.

We are so sorry for you. What rotten luck after all your years of travelling.

Hope you're able to get a satisfactory conclusion after all the work you've put into customising your van.

Good to hear no-one was seriously injured which is the main thing in accidents like these. Hope you get it sorted via insurance quickly.

A truly horrid thing to happen. Glad no-one was badly hurt. Here's hoping your insurance sorts it out painlessly and quickly.

Thank you all for your thoughts, I must say that even before the accident we thought both the standards of road surface and driving skills in Italy were some of the worst we have come across in Europe

Oh, that's terrible. I'm happy that at least you came though it unscathed. Must have been a dreadful shock..

So sorry to hear of your accident. Glad both of you are ok. We're over in N Italy at the moment and know exactly what you mean about the state of the roads and drivers. Hope you get things resolved quickly.

Terrible! But, at least you are both ok. What a nightmare. We've only had our Betty since November and we're already so attached! I can only imagine how miserable you must be.

I've never commented on anyone's post before- but felt compelled to after just reading about your dreadful experience.... what an awful thing to have happened! How ever much anyone says things like at least nobody is hurt- which is obviously true- it doesn't really help ...or to be precise - it doesn't help me.... it takes me a long time to forgive and forget ( probably never to be honest!) However... Just think of all the exciting times ahead choosing another one... plus you have all the memories of the last six years .. so hopefully you won't always view it as a wasted 6 years of work.... It makes our problem of leaking taps pale into insignificance!! I have no idea which part of the country you are in but if you are anywhere near the north west we can offer you a lovely cup of tea!! PM me if you are....
