Wrecked
That's tragic. The pictures really bring home the extent of the damage.
I'm amazed that the tow bar broke off; the forces involved must have been enormous.
Keep us updated on progress with your claim. Let's hope all goes through smoothly and satisfactorily for you.

Well after our accident in Italy our van should be with the repairs for assessment by Wed, its being taken to a company called
S & L Automotive Ltd, Unit 7 Drake House Court, Hamilton Road, SUTTON-IN-ASHFIELD. anyone used them or know anything about them?
Dave
Some impressive work on their web site, no habitation repair pictures though!

Hi,
nothing sorted yet but we went up to Nottingham to empty the van today, the owner of S&L said straight away that as far as he was concerned it was beyond repair and that is what he would be advising the insurers tomorrow. It was a relief as when we looked at it today we could see that the sides were buckled as well as the back, he said he couldn't guarantee the integrity of the welded frame, so now we have to wait to hear from the insurers and see what offer they make.
Dave
PS looks like you are having a good trip [ envy envy ]

Oh that's very sad news Dave but we suspected as much. You wouldn't want somebody making extensive cosmetic repairs to her only then to find out that the whole frame is twisted.
I suppose that if it were us we'd never have the same faith in the van again after it had undergone all that work.
Hope everything goes through quickly for you both.
Is the car back at home with you?

Yes we have the car back with a temp repair prior to the insurers decision, so it may still be a right off despite not having anything badly wrong with it.
We were back up in Nottingham today to finish emptying the van, as we left for the last time I must admit we both had a moist eye,

Sorry both but don't let it defeat you. Start planning your next purchase and next year's long holiday.
Also, if you've a mind to, still come to the meet and have a bit of enjoyment. Borrow a tent or something and get this disaster out of your system.

We are bouncing back, its just waiting on the insurers now , but its got to be another Eriba, we will probably see what's available in the Netherlands,
as for the meet, we will be there even if its in a tent [unless its pi**ing down]

That's good to hear. There does appear to be more choice in the Netherlands especially for non-washroom vans which we presume is what you're looking for.
Great news about the meet too. What, rain? It doesn't rain in England does it? If it does we're hoping to grab a seat in somebodies awning as we're not carrying ours on this trip.

Well the latest update, Saga have been very good and after the engineers wrote the van off put us in the hands of their assessors, who initially offered us £10500, so I took them through the AL web site showing like for like and they agreed a sum of £12500, Saga also paid £500 towards our travel costs, and paid for items lost and damaged in the caravan and car without a quibble [probably because we didn't exaggerate].
when the car was returned the repairers made it roadworthy in 1 hour so that we could use it, and it's gone in for full repair this week so should have it back next week C/W new tow bar.
Saga meanwhile are chasing the other insurers for the excess on the caravan and car [£350] plus the rest of our travel costs [£700].
Two weeks ago we went to the Netherland and have bought a Troll 552 2005 for £11200 with a one year guarantee + a brand new Walker awning for £800 , as against £14500 for the van at AL, luckily we paid for it by money transfer 2 days before the referendum, now it would cost an extra £700. not fiscal skill pure panic of the unknown.
The van is here if anyone wants to see it

It's really nice to get a report of an insurance claim that seems to have proceeded smoothly and fairly.
It's only the claim process that shows a company's worth (imho).
Of course it's a terrible event for you Dave, but hopefully it's being resolved to your satisfaction.
