A few Newbie Questions please

So I joined the Forum yesterday evening and without further ado I hope some experienced member might take a minute to answer a few basic questions.
I first saw an Eriba in the early 90’s on a campsite in France and took a liking to it. I have never even stood in one (yet)
Don’t really like towing, just myself and my better half so a smallish Eriba is required. I notice some have a little loo fitted ( is this instead of wardrobe space? ) and we figure this would be a nice plus so what model am I looking for ? Loo included.
I have a 15 reg Toyota Rav4 so should manage the towing but it has a standard Toyota tow bar and trailer plug socket: this is a 7 pin socket. Is this socket suitable for the plug on an Eriba Caravan ? Even if I buy one in say Germany or France ? What is this 13 pin I read about ? Would I need an adaptor for the trailer lights ?
Sorry for a pile of questions on the first posting but I thank you in anticipation of reply.
Best Regards,
Chris

You can get an adapter to convert 13 pin to 7 pin, but this will only give you road lights on the van, or you can have 13 pin fitted to your car this will then work the fridge, interior lights, water pump etc. in the caravan.
I think the smallest Eriba with built in toilet the Familia 320, this is a list of most of the traditional layouts

Hi and welcome
We have a 320 Familia and the space available is adequate for 2 adults, the loo has storage as well as adequate space and the wardrobe , fridge and lockers provide all that is needed for a good holiday. We are in France and we have a 13 pin socket fitted to that car and an adapter that fits this to convert to 7 pin for when we tow our little trailer, easy to tow and a must is towing mirrors, milenco are great

Well many thanks to all for your fast replies. Appreciate the heads up on the trailer plug. Never did see a 13 pin. ( yet) I had the tow bar fitted before I collected the car last year and Toyota never mentioned anything, just fitted the 7 pin. I suppose an adapter will be in order.
Many thanks again, replies appreciated.

PS: If you only have one 7 pin socket on the Rav4 this would be a 'road lights only' feed to your Eriba, even with the adapter to 13 pin Eriba plug 'only the road lights' will be powered. If you had the two 7 pin sockets Black 7N plus a grey socket 7S on the Rav, and then used the twin adapter 7N/7S to 13 pin , the supplementary circuits would feed your Eriba. Depending on how the tow car is wired some things may only work when the engine is running (like battery charge etc).
If you decided to have all things working it may be best to have the Rav4 towing electrics converted professionally to 13 pin - many say a far superior electric system. Also don't forget that if you use an 'adapter' 7 - 13 pin it is another possible cause of voltage-drop and possible connection trouble !
Hope this is of some help !

Managed to purchase a really nice 310 and met lovely folk in the process. We traveled to the UK a couple of weeks back and brought it home. Hell of a journey, 2 ferries, a giant traffic jam around Manchester and an overnight. All well and it is now wrapped up and in a shed for the winter. We are really looking forward to next years week ends away and holidaying. I was impressed with it being towed, seemed rock steady at 100KPH. I have had a folding camper for a few years so having the center rear view mirror blocked out takes a bit of getting used to. I have found this forum very informative and no doubt will be posting a few questions early next year.
p.s. 13 pin to 7 pin adapter worked fine ( a little difficult to figure out the initial insertion into the 13 pin caravan plug)

Hi Chris and
You say you find it hard not seeing through your centre rear view mirror??? We were the same until we realised all we had to do was peg back the curtains and then we had a view straight through to the rear of the caravan. We also had a 7 pin adaptor fitted to our car and the trailer company changed this to 13 pin quite easily and not too much dosh. By changing this we can now keep the fridge cold while travelling.
All the best in your travels....
Regards Chris

Good thinking. Most driving with the Eriba hitched up so far was either in the dark or in the lashings of rain so I will check out the view through the windows when we get it back. Regarding the 13 pin socket, Toyota have been fitting them as standard for several months now but sadly I missed out in June 15 when I bought my Rav 4 off them and they fitted a 12N 7 pin as standard. A local company wants €200 to change it over, Toyota want € 350 but if I go with the local guy then Toyota will not cover wiring under warranty and I have about 18 months left on their warranty so caught by the .....warranty.

Call me cynical, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Toyota dealership didn't sub-contract the rewiring work to the local company that gave you the estimate (at trade rates of course) and then pocket the difference.
Sadly, on this occasion they have you over a barrel.
