Spare wheel ruins the aesthetics at the back

I love my 2005 Puck which I have been using non stop since I bought it in May.
I have to say though that the spare wheel and its carrier stick out like a sore thumb at the back and ruin the look IMO. Maybe the spare is not so prominent on the larger vans but I'm wondering if there are specific covers available?

Can't say I'd noticed that before but I see what you mean.
Here's a pic of a post 2001 Puck alongside a 90's Puck and the spare is rather prominent.

On the rest of the Touring range they fit further under the van. You could remove it and carry it in the tow car.

You must have read my mind. I was going to try today to see if it will fit in the space where the cars spare is meant to go (now car manufacturers don't give you a spare anymore!!)
Only problem being that I've had enough trouble getting the noseweight down to 50kg as it is and removing the spare isn't going to help.

Like you, our car wasn't supplied with a spare so we carry one anyway, in the car. Therefore we've elected to carry our Troll's spare in the car as well. We try not to bury them however as if they are needed, it'll most likely be during the journey.

To compensate for the loss of back end weight, we've got a largish plastic box with a lid, filled with food stuffs or blankets, which travels on the floor at the back under the table. This box is easy to remove when pitching up.

Found a few places that do 'made to measure' covers so I think that may be the easiest/neatest solution. The boot in my Audi A1 is small enough as it is without a wheel taking up valuable space!!

On our French Pan Familia there's a really handy "tube" behind the spare wheel, which easily carries our Solaire awning, side rain shield and two folding chairs! Hopefully I've uploaded a photo showing it! It tidies up Aimee's derriere quite smartly, and the spare can still be reached easily.

The aesthetics of the spare wheel don't mater at all to us and as you can see from the pic the wheel actually sticks out from the back of our van. This has a big practical advantage in that it helps prevent us crunching the rear of our beloved against any unseen objects whilst reversing. This avoids any real aesthetically damaging modifications to the van!

Cheers all,

I really like that "Tube". What a really neat idea. Was that an Eriba extra at one time or was it an accessory that some clever folk invented and added ?

It's not an Eriba part but something that quite a few owners have done made out of large diameter waste water pipes. It's a convenient way to carry wind breaks or awning poles or fishing rods etc.

This seems to be a popular addition to French owned Eribas. We've seen several like that since we raised the subject several years ago. What are these used for?

Ikea make a bag specifically for a spare tyre called the Dimpa for the extortionate price £2.95p. Top tip it also fits a Brompton bike...

I have no idea when the "tube" was fitted but I'm assuming it was there from new looking at it...it's what my OH call a "proper job", and the spare wheel is located further forward than usual. We bought here in France, from a French couple so the finer details got lost in translation I fear...along with the bottle of red they insisted on sharing with us It was the first Eriba we viewed so hadn't realised that all Eribas don't come with said tube. The ends are locked on using a huge plastic spanner...pure genius.
