Cars again

Main dealer have their hands on our motor since yesterday morning, lucky we are are on a main bus service and free!.
The electronic handbrake warning light came on again, coupled with a really loud screech/whine noise when the parking brake was applied.
Our local very good garage hasn't all the software dignostics to source the problem. He fitted a new motor to operate the brakes three weeks ago.
Now the dealer tells me the callipers have failed and it's £400 all in, so tole them to go ahead today. However as usual the are trying to extract moneyall the time and have informed me the battery failed a test, the head laights are misted and a knock under the bonnet if some sort of mounting and that;s a cool £1000.
When I collect it hopefully later today I will investigate a trade in. The Ford dealer deals with Honda and Kia and there is a Skoda dealer near them.
Can't afford new.

Good luck with the car, we fly into the UK tomorrow to collect a Skoda Octavia 1.6 diesel so hoping that it does what it says on the tin ( or in this case the forums)

It would appear that nowadays it's becoming more "fashionable" to lease a car. One of our kids has just picked up a new Ford Kuga.

It's all a bit alien to us but there is (almost) a convincing argument as cars depreciate so fast and spares and repairs are so expensive.

You normally drive a L/H drive car registered in France don't you?

Trouble with a 'Lease Car' is that you need permission to fit a tow bar,at your cost and probably need to pay again to have it removed at the end of the lease, mileage is limited unless you pay heavily for exceeding the agreed total, scratches, any dents, alloy wheel scuffs etc.will have to be paid on return of the car at end of lease. Servicing / / tyres etc may or may not be included in the rental fee. Special permission is required for a pre planned trip out of the UK - OK if you know the exact dates, but difficult if you have 'fluid ' dates !

I know, only small points, but may need considering !

Probably best to check with any 'Leasing' you may be interested in using (I'm sure there may be different terms) but from experience with several Leases when Kathy had Lease cars for work, this was the case !

Car picked up yesterday and was just a calliper, but cost me £450 and 3 days without the motor.
Got a new battery today.
Just my luck, crap at the moment. Got a speeding ticket from Dorset plod for 36 in a 30 area. Looks like a £100 and points. They offer me a course at a cost of £110 and I would have to get to somewhere in Dorset. Probably pay the ton and be done.

What a cheek, didn't he know who you are? It's not everyday he'll meet someone with a page in the C & CC mag.
