Most people I point out upside down flags to thought the flag was symmetrical and were surprised they were not. They never got as far as considering it's orientation.

I s'pose it's a 50/50 chance whether it's right or wrong.

Funnily enough though I can remember several points in my youth where the correct orientation of the Union Jack was brought to my attention, several times at school and several times in the Air Training Corps. Makes you wonder where the people spejnd their formative years when they profess they never knew it had a correct way round.

Which reminds me, in the interests of equality, the majority of folk are right handed and the minority of folk that used to be left handed, are now designated as 'correct handed'. So we have right turns and correct turns etc, etc.

All very sinister.

I have always understood the flying of the Union Flag upside down was a covert distress signal! How very British and how very Empire…..!

I understood the upside down distress signal was for the "jack" on shipping. And flying the flag upside down otherwise was treason ! - so hang them all

Is it correct that it’s only the union ‘jack’ when flying from a jack mast? Otherwise it’s the flag.
