New resolution, never mind the date

Petitions will roll out soon for : -
1/ Abolish Halloween
2/ Get Strictly Come Dancing off main stream telly.
3/ Force BBC to give Fiona Bruce something useful to do instead of intrude every damn programme
4/ Banish Social Media and get back to talking.
5/ Poppies only to be worn in November.
Yes I'm in the usual grumpy old man mode before I drive to Bournemouth for the speed awareness course at 1.00pm.

Just remember to stick to the speed limits.
No need to abolish Halloween, just legislate against bloody trick or treating which teaches children that it's acceptable (with parental sanction) to threaten people with property damage in order to extort bribes. Yet another aspect of American culture that we can do without.

Actually it went well in terms of info and stuff I didn't know about road signs. 20 in all attended, One chap from Essex, a lady from Bracknell, two from near Bristol, quite a spread.

When you get done exceeding the speed limit and either pay the fine and get points on your licence or avoid those , pay the fee almost the same and don't get points.

Basically, it's another form of extortion whereby people who may only have slightly exceeded the speed limit with no suggestion that they were otherwise driving dangerously or without due care and attention can pay not to receive penalty points on their driving licences.
Earlier this week horrific in cab video footage of a Polish lorry driver fiddling with his phone and driving into a queue of stationary traffic at 50 mph killing a woman and two children was given a lot of airtime. Not surprisingly, very few drivers are ever prosecuted for using their mobile phones while driving despite it being a common sight on our roads. Catching them requires effort whereas speeding entrapment is automated and absolute in its enforcement.
When a badly signed bus lane in Portsmouth can amass fines of £123,000 within 11 weeks of its installation, police and local authority motives and priorities have to be called into question.
The problem is that, as ever, the motorist is treated as a cash cow to be milked at every opportunity.

What a coincidence - actually 10,000 drivers have been caught TWICE in the last 4 years. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-37855713 Obviously penalties are far too lenient and the cow isn't producing anywhere enough milk.

More static and mobile cameras + more Bobbies on the beat + bigger milk urns = I'm all for that.
Having spent 23 years of my working life removing humans - whole or in bits - from vehicles, I find myself in a position of having absolutely no sympathy for people who claim not to understand the meaning of roadsigns including those relating to speed, and who take it upon themselves to ignore these. Neither do I have sympathy for those who simply cannot accept that the possession of a driving license is something that needs to be earned, is not an absolute right and with the acceptance of that principle, act responsibly in every regard when behind the wheel.
