Yes, we'd be interested in this too Barbara. We have for many years used a flat pack conventional aerial which is OK to assemble and take apart but, although it gives us a good reception in all areas of the UK, it looks a bit old fashioned now.

I use an Avtex multi directional aerial on a home made pole which works very well with my Avtex tv, The tv supplies the 12v to the aerial so I don't need a separate feed. Brian.

What, you mean something like this:- Necvox
Interesting. I guess a problem with the magnetic base though.

I must say you look chilled out.
Cheesed off with listening to someone say, "Left a bit - no, right a bit. Hold it there - no, it's gone again. That's it! No, it isn't. Can you put it back where it was a minute ago? Yes - that's it again! Bingo! Erm... no, it's gone completely this time. Yes! No!"
"Did you move it without me asking?"

Hi I actually like the look of the old fashioned ones. There are so many out there and they all look the same. Too much choice
and I havn't got a clue about them
Unfortunately the company I bought our old fashioned aerial off no longer exists. It was sold as a flatpack complete with 3 poles and a jockey wheel clamp.
When put away, the aerial wings came off by unwinding a wingnut.
This is something like it but I can't make out whether the wings will unbolt.

Sometimes you will never get a signal such as when we were in an old quarry in Leyburn,
When I was at Wenslydale CC site a gentleman stopped to talk whilst I was outside adjusting my aerial for the umpteenth time , he said he had been trying for days to get a signal and he even had his aerial pointing the same way as mine? That's funny I said I've been looking at your aerial and I've been trying for days as well.....
When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!
It all depends what you want on holiday, I have one like Poptop320 above, sometimes it works others it doesn't that's the nature of things on a camp site sometimes in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees.
Some people go to the lengths of carrying a satellite dish with them.
Me ? I often sit outside with a bottle of pink champagne and watch the world go by.
Alternatives are a tv with built in dvd drive or a laptop possibly connected to the tv with an hdmi lead to watch dvd that way or if internet is available you could always read Eribafolk forum.

Or just close your eyes and listen to the radio, make sure it has FM/AM band width as well as DAB otherwise you will be counting the leaves on the tree for something to do..

I'm beginning to wonder if we are OK as we are in that case. We've never failed to get a reasonable reception as far as I can remember
Just one question though, the Saw Fish Aerial that Poptop and Hob have, I presume is directional so the comedy rigmarole that Mr Le Pew describes would have to take place?
In the case of the Necvox or one of the flying saucer shaped ones, I presume they are just multi-directional. If so, are they any good?
There's also one shaped like a Cuttlefish bone which I presume is directional?
Can the directional ones be fixed in either the vertical plane or the horizontal plane dependent on the local mast characteristics?
By the way, for those who still want to go old fashioned, I've just found one on Amazon which is similar to ours :- TV Aerial Kit
