Door Chimes

We bought a SilverCrest Wireless Doorbell some months back and ever since we've had lots of false alarms with it chiming and there is no one outside. It's particularly a pain in the derriere when I'm in my studio upstairs and have to try to descend quickly.
Going down stairs for me is not a swift operation these days and sure enough no one there. It's just happened for the fourth time today.

We reckon it's triggered either by a similar device in the vicinity or a passing vehicle. Some friends had the same issue, they live in a cul-de-sac and think it's taxis, but how the whats it can we find out and rectify? With technology creeping into every manner of gadgets it's surely a increasing problem.

Any clever thoughts out there? apart from the usual smart a*s*s.

No solution but I do sympathise. Can you look out or the window or put a sign on your front door saying to knock as well. That way you'll know it's a real person.

Hi, Could a neighbour have a bell on the same frequency ? I do know baby alarms can interfere with other gadgets
I hope you find the reason soon

Some devices that are wireless have a dual frequency to counteract frequency clashes usually there will be a small switch with A&B on each component, if yours has this facility try it on a different setting as long as the symbols match..

I had a similar situation with our outside light, it keep coming on at night and i thought somebody was coming down the path. I took month to workout our central heating thermostat was interfering with the lights sensor.
Every time the thermostat clicks on the light comes on.

Because we are an anti social pair of old tarfs we don't have a bell, knocker or any other device that alerts us to the fact there is someone at the door. If we don't know someone's coming then we ignore the knocking

Same with our mobiles, we can block all callers not in our contact list

We don't have a home phone, we have a line but hav'nt had a home phone for about 24 years, as I was given my first mobile at around that time.

The joys of having someone trying to sell me something, I never asked for, wanted, or enquired about and seeing them outside on the cctv stood in the rain is really an uplifter! And I have even had the odd local Politician

Strange no I just enjoy my privacy

Ha!

Rumbled!

I knew you really lived in the Old Spot services. And I knew I was right not to stop there for a wee.

Not only are you completely mad, you're a king-sized fibber, too...

What's a mobile.
Is it the thing that hangs above a babies bed?
Or is it that small black thing with buttons on I leave in the car for emergencies, that I put £10 of credit on three years ago?

Back to the plot hampshireman, there is usually a way to change the wireless frequency within the device, sometimes hidden in the battery cover. You need to have a look in the instruction leaflet, I'm sure it will give advice on changing the frequency, it is a very common problem :)

Doesn't help Derek's door bell problem but I though Agger might appreciate our setup. We only have one door to our bungalow, the front door was removed and bricked up when we renovated. The back (only) door is behind a pair of six foot gates. These are always locked for security when we go out or if we are sleeping in the Eriba when the house is overflowing with guests. Sometimes we lock it in the day when we are at home (antisocial, us?). This resulted in the lovely occasion when the Jehovah's Witnesses (no offence intended to any who share their philosophy) called. I opened the door when I saw them coming up the drive, when I realised who they were I said "No thank you" very politely and went back inside. They stood on the other side of the locked gate for 5 minutes waiting for me to give in and go out and talk to them, I didn't.

Many door bells use a code which is made at random each time the battery inserted into the push. The chime can learn these push codes usually only within the first few minutes of the batteries being inserted. The best bet is remove the batteries from both push and chime, reinsert them then press the push. This should give you a new code and hopefully no false alarms.

We also bought one of these Silvercrest door bells , from Lidl I believe, that suffered from the same complaint as yours. There was a little button on the side that you could press to change the frequency and I believe that there were about four different frequencies to choose from. We tried them all without success. So it ended up in the bin. After reading all about these wireless bells on the internet it would appear that most suffer from this complaint, some more than others. It would also appear that if you wanted to buy something more upmarket like the old Westminster Chimes that we had before they are nearly impossible to come by. The bell that seems to be offered the most is the ordinary bell, like a fire bell, that was popular in the fifties. So much for progress.
