My Batter Charger seems to have died, or perhaps just suffering from a temporary lack of sparks. One way or t’other, I find electrickery a black art, best left to those more confident than I. My car does not have the 13 pin arrangement so no charging whilst on the move, I thought however that being connected up to 220v would charge up the battery but not so. That said, we never stay anywhere except on Elec Hook up, I only noticed with it parked up that the lights were not operating, so it really ain’t too much of a loss. I have 2 questions and I appreciate any light that can be shone upon my dilemma (pun intended!)
1: Am I perhaps missing something simple here ( methinks not ) like a Fuse gone ? Or the Blei-Gel / Blei-Saure ( Lead Gel / Lead Acid ) switch at the bottom maybe?
2: I can every now and then top up the battery with a charger. Can the Fridge be operated off the battery whilst on the move ?
The Van is a Familia 310 x 2002.
Thanks in anticipation.
Chris

No it would use too much power
Do you have a multimeter to check the battery voltage?

The fridge can be operated whilst on the move but you would need to connect to car using the two plug arrangement (7 pin/6pin) or the 13 pin connector which would power fridge and give you reverse lights on van.

Many thanks for the link, that looks interesting, I will have a full read of it later this evening. In the meanwhile, I don't think my fridge is operating on 12v at all. All lights operate and so too does the water pump ( on 12v ) but the 12v on/off switch for the fridge does not come on( light up ) when turned on on whatsoever. It works fine on 220v.
Thanks again,
Chris

It needs to be plugged into the car and the engine running to work as its powered by the car alternator.

Chris,
1. Have you got 230V mains input to the charger?
2. If the charger was installed correctly there should be a 15A fuse between the charger's output and the leisure battery.

The fuse allocation on your BIP unit version, starting from the top:
1. Awning Light (12V ac)
2. Pump & Blown Air Fan (12V dc)
3. Internal Lights - Kitchen & Front Seating Group (12V ac)
4. Internal Lights - Toilet & Rear Seating Group (12V ac)
5 Fridge, 12V dc Element (from towbar connector)
There is no battery fuse fitted to your BIP unit because a battery and charger are not part of the original fit - the caravan's ELV (12V) electrics are intended to be sourced from mains hook-up only.
So, your battery and charger are a retrofit, and an in-line fuse should have been fitted, as mentioned previously.
You'll need to check the wiring to determine how they're configured - there may well be an in-line fuse secreted inside the BIP if the cables from the battery & charger are routed there.
Regardless of whether or not a fuse has been secreted somewhere you need to check that the charger has mains 230V input, and if so, check for 12V-iish at its output terminals (with the battery disconnected).
