Electrical advice

I would like to move a 230v socket on our new 430 but have noticed that the end of the multi strand cable is treated with a clear coating to prevent the strands from splaying when you push the cable into the connection, any ideas on this would be gladly received.

It's not a clear coating - each multi-strand conductor is fitted with a crimped brass ferrule, as you quite rightly say, to keep the strands together.

If you are adding a new socket just twist the strands together and check to make sure there's none poking out of the connectors when you've finished.

Thanks for all the quick responses , have had another look at the connection and there are no ferrules just wire strands that appear glued together to form a solid wire. This is a 2017 van is this a new Hymer thing.

You can achieve the same thing by just adding a trace of solder to the end of the wires..

The 230v wiring loom is all pre cut to length the ends are then pre sealed to form a solid end which can then be pushed into the spring connection, The spring connectors that Hymer use are listed as not suitable for multi strand wire without pre finishing end i.e.boot lace ferrule or tinning

Bernard,
where do you want to fix another socket?
I also have a 2017 430, fixed bed and have fitted several extra sockets. Check here 2017 Triton 430 - extras and modifications
Last paragraph mentions removal of panel in bottom of undersink area. You can cut cable here and run cable with ease.

Thanks Colin , I would like to put another socket under the front window , all the sockets seem to have a short length of cable which then goes into connector , but I may do as you have done and cut into the cable.

I fitted extra mains sockets to my Feeling and used the same interconnection components as fitted by Hymer - WAGO's Winsta Midi Series.

They're readily available in the UK at a reasonable price - I bought mine from CPC.

Like, Colin, I too was mulling over the idea of fitting extra sockets particularly up front where on our Troll only a single socket has been provided. Just as I was making up a list of items that I would need etc. a nice brochure from those nice guys Aldi appeared through the letterbox and in an instant my problem was solved. This 'Cube' might not be the most decorative of items but it's also not the ugliest and with 4 x standard sockets (16amp), 2 x Euro sockets (2.5amp), 2 x USB (2.1amp), short circuit protection and providing a maximum of 3680 Watts, not to mention it's portability, it'll do us just fine.
