They tow really well when loaded correctly a Triton that age is probably fitted with an AlKo AKS1300 Stabiliser

Remove any paint or rust from the towball and clean the hitch stabilizer pads with fine sandpaper and clean everything to remove dust.

If you can raise and lower the stabiliser locking handle with little or no effort - whilst the hitch is on the towball - then it is likely the friction pads in the stabilser are worn out - or missing. On the Alko 1300 they simply drift out from the outside and can be easily replaced. Otherwise as stated, dirt, rust etc all need to be cleaned out.

Most chances of snaking can be reduced by careful loading, correct nose weight and correct tyre pressures. A stabiliser will not stop a badly loaded caravan from snaking.
Also look ahead, a prime spot for snaking is a long downhill stretch with a wind exposed section at the bottom of the hill, often a river or motorway bridge. It's tempting to lift off the gas and allow the speed to rise, but if you get overtaken at the bottom by a big vehicle that can be enough to start it off. ( speaking from early experience)

Yes indeed. In fact, in France it's often the case that speed restrictions apply to caravans on long downhill sections of motorways with the appropriate speed limit sign placed at the start of the descent.

Alonsos,
don't worry. I have owned eribas since 2003 and only had a wobble once [low tyre pressures]. It really is very easy to get a nice safe tow. Just follow this and assuming the ALKO or Winterhof anti-snake coupling is grabbing the towball all should be fine:-
- at the start of each season give the ball a good clean with emery tape and wipe down with brake cleaner spray, also give the inside of the coupling a wipe out.
- get the tyre pressures correct.
- each trip give a little spray and wipe to coupling and ball.
- load the van up and get the weight forwards where you can with nothing heavy up top.
- carry a set of cheap [IKEA] scales and a couple of bits of wood to check noseweight, about 50'55kg usually works for me [you normally only need to do this a couple of times as you will tend to load the van the same each time]
- think a couple of 100m ahead when towing, slow downhill and a bit quicker uphill.
- use a pair of Milenco Aero tow mirrors for a better view.
Relax, drive a bit slower than normal and enjoy.

We were really nervous at first, but even in terrible wind conditions my husband says he's never felt the van doing anything worrying and we're starti g to feel much more confident. Just take your time.
