There are some really nice pics and videos around looking back to earlier caravanning/camping.

I couldn't resist sharing this one. https://www.facebook.com/belgranohobbies...49129185326293/

Anyone got some more? Old postcards as well as photos/videos.

Thank you for sharing that Roger. I'm amazed that a Lambretta Li could pull anything let alone a folding caravan. If I remember rightly they had a 150cc two stroke engine. The caravan itself is a revelation - quite sophisticated for its time I think.

Merry Christmas, Tony

Yes, quite a revelation. Oh for the days of stress free motoring with hardly anything on the roads. Are wives like that available for rent I wonder as I wouldn't mind having one on loan during the summer to assist with putting the awning up.

I had a Lambretta LI 150 with a Bambini sidecar just like this one in 1964/5. It just about managed to take 3 adults the 20 miles to the Norfolk coast - Happy days.

I had a Lambretta LD (the one with the swan neck back) It couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but it was my first motorcycle and I had such fun on it - 3 gears and a top speed of 48mph, those were the days. Which reminds me I haven't had a rice pudding for ages, looking out of the window at the snow I think this is just the right time to make one - yummy

I had a Lambretta LD150. That could manage 50mph, or so the police said.

I got pulled over doing 35 in a 30 limit. I had followed the old boy from next door, doing 25 in a 30 limit. The road was empty, apart from the unmarked car parked up ! I overtook and was slowing down, when a man stepped out into the road and pulled me over. Cost me a fine and 3 points. Don’t rush about anymore.

I also got pulled riding my Ariel Colt across Hayes common in Kent. 1964. Minding my own business at 30mph (the speed limit) when I was overtaken by a large group on scooters, closely followed by a Police Daimler Dart. who pulled us all over for speeding. They didn't take any notice of the fact that at that time a biker wouldn't be seen dead with Mods on scooters. To make matters worse this large copper picked up the front wheel of my bike and, pulling it along the ground, said, 'Your brakes don't work'

A weeks wages and 6 points.

While drooling over a great looking 1962 Bedford CA Dormobile (we used to own one), on one of the Facebook pages, one of the contributors reminded us about the 1965 silent film San Ferry Ann (1965)

I can remember those tents, they were sold in Halfords, called an Igloo tent, years ahead of their time but never caught on, probably the tubing wasn't as tough as now.

I look back at the cigarette lighter or battery crocodile clip pump. Exploding air beds were common in those days. Can't remember the air igloo tent. Thought it was a new idea.

Ariel Colt, underpowered 200cc, replaced by the Arrow and Leader I believe, my colt was a pig to start and bl**dy heavy compared to my Tiger Cub
