ERIBA RECALL ACTION
This morning we received a letter from the dealer from whom we purchased our Triton stating than Hymer had initiated a recall action. In essence this letter stated the following:_
Within the framework of permanent product observation it has been noted that there can be the following problem on individual vehicles:
Damage to the tent fabric by sharp edges.
Solution: installation of side caps on the rail.
The rest of the letter says that we should contact our dealer to make an appointment, at the latest by 31.07.2014, to have this problem rectified. Although we have received this letter here in Germany I have no reason to doubt that this applies equally to vans sold in the UK as they are imported from Germany anyway. It might be worth your while contacting your dealer to see whether or not they have received notification of this recall action. Also please note, no particular models are stated in the recall letter neither production years - it simply states individual vehicles.

In all honesty, Roger, I'm somewhat baffled myself - do they mean the canvas on the pop-up implying maybe a sharp edge on either section of the roof, or are they meaning the canvas of an awning implying the awning rail has sharp edges. No idea but we've booked our van to have an unrelated matter sorted out by our local Hymer dealer, not the one we purchased it from, and we'll get them to sort it whatever it is.
Oh by the way, I noticed my initial post has had 31+ views and only you have seen fit to even acknowledge it. You might like to consider this when re-reading my response to your PM the other day.

Ah, awning canvas? I see what you mean
My immediate thoughts were the pop top fabric and perhaps some sort of plastic end cap had not been fitted to the scissors action lifters.
It's very strange how they can pinpoint which batch on vans has been affected so I presumed that perhaps some end caps had been missed off rather than created to cure a new design fault.
As far as I'm aware, apart from you, there are only two other members with nearly new vans on here, that's Frantone and Pop320 and I'm sure they'll be interested in joining the discussion when they login.
Blueyonder haven't picked their new van up yet and LindaJ has only had hers for about a fortnight so I guess they'll also be interested.
Once you find out what the problem is, perhaps you can let us know. If it's something simple like a missing end cap and it can be established by the van owner then it might save somebody a long trip to the retailer. I think the supplier to all the members I mentioned above is AL and in the case of LindaJ she would have the whole of the UK to travel to get it back there.

Well of course they are not necessarily referring to new or nearly new vans. Recall is a dirty word over here, especially for non-safety related matters, unless absolutely pushed into it so goodness knows how far back this problem goes. Will give the dealer a call tomorrow afternoon and get the low down.

Let us all know what the issue is and how they have fixed it, it wouldn't surprise me if all the German made vans have this problem as it it seems they kept making the same mistake with the electrics, take some pictures of the modification if you can, thanks

Here we go, this must be a first, a recall from a caravan manufacturer!!
Could this set a precedent with UK makers?
My mates new Bailey Valencia had a recall a couple of years ago. The fault was the zink plated wheel studs on it, and a few of Bailey vans were losing wheels whilst been towed , .

I'm not sure it was an official recall but last year Bailey were supplied a gash lot of mattresses that soaked up moisture from the atmosphere, leaving them wringing wet. Once the problem was identified their supplier moved very quickly to replace all the faulty batch. They also had issues with water getting inside the front lockers, that seems to have been cured now too.
Current issues are Elddis refusing to acknowledge that some of their panels are cracking under relatively low mileage. Owners are incensed when Elddis suggest it is due to being towed over rough surfaces. How to really upset a whole heap of good loyal customers. A PR disaster. Swift had a whole heap of damp ingress issues over the last couple of years but they seem to have overcome those problems.
